More newbie q's - servo power

hi, can i power the servos with 4 1.5 v AA alkaline battery pack? will it give enuf current??
thanks for your patience!

Maybe for a couple of minutes.

actually alkaline batteries have a lot of capacity so absolutely, but as zoomkat said, after a few minutes you would get to buy another set of batteries.

Alkaline cells can supply a fair amount of current, but the cheep plastic battery holders that use springs for the electrical contacts do not carry the current well at all. Note the small wires too.

hi… thanks for your replies. just bought a battery pack which is much more convenient, so think i’ll drop the alk cell idea

Would that somehow hurt the servos? I powered 6x 5645s off of 4x AA batteries just fine before. I had logic off of a 9v battery though.

“hurt” them? No, but the poor quality connection to the cells and the small wire gauge create a significant increase in source resistance which can cause power drop outs under high loads. In extreme cases you could heat the connections/wire to the point of fusing them or reflowing solder until something shorts or more likely opens. So it doesn’t hurt anything, just has the potential to make things unreliable.
