I have to model AL5D robotic arm onto SolidWorks. I have read the discussion thread, AL5D Robotic Arm and been through the list of components already modeled and the assembly guides for AL5D. But after all these I am still not sure how do I go about it.
The assembly guides don’t seem very helpful as there is no mention of the model components to be used. But I still started with the Aluminum Tubing Arm assembly and kept adding the components asked by this assembly. But I don’t know what to do next. Which component to use next. What about the gripper and base. How to connect (mate) these with the aluminum tubing assembly. Do I need to model the rest on my own?
Any pointers to clear the doubts will be really helpful.
I suspect if models for the parts are not already available in the library then you need to identify the ones missing for your assembly and build models for them. Many of the models in the library came from exactly this process, that is people using what was there and adding parts they needed to make their specific assemblies. Feel free to join in and contribute?
This should help you. There are some parts that have not had 3D files made yet. If you want I can send you the information I have so you can create them. We would like to have a full 3D model of the arm to share on the website.
We’re doing a lot of work on making sure that all the kits have parts lists on the website, but it’s slow going. Maybe not quite as visually interesting as pictures, but hey, we do what we can.
Thanks Jim. That detailed picture gives a far better idea of the whole thing. Just to confirm, have the parts, LG-NS and BR-NS been modeled? If not then it would really be nice if you could send me the information that you have to create them.
I have emailed you the 2D DXF files for the base rotate parts. I will receive Solidworks 2008 files for the Gripper from the manufacturer next week. When I receive it I will pass it on to you. Let me know if there is anything else you need and I will take care of it. I look forward to seeing a full model of the AL5D arm. Thanks! Jim
that’s cool! hahaha. Can I also have the whole assembly of the AL5D CAD/ Modeling when it is done?
It will be awesome if I can show it during the presentation for my school’s robotic exhibition.
P.S : I drew the whole AL5D Arm myself using AutoCad Inventor, but the measurements are based on my estimations, and overall it does not look that attractive to me.
Hi Jim,
I’ve been reading this thread and then navigated to the web page to see if the AL%D model was already there for download. I havent’ found it.
I’m really interested in having this 3D model of the AL5D arm. Did you finally get it done? If positive and possible for you, can you send it to me ar let me know where to go for downloading?
