I have built a mode of a 250 ton crane. This model is operated with 5 Cytron Series30 brushless DC gearmotors. I need 5, 10 amp ESC’s and a micro controller to talk to the ESC’s. I will also need a RF transmitter and receiver to do what I want to do I know what ESC’s to buy but that is it.
If there is any one out there that could recommend what I need for transmitter. receiver. and micro control it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for joining the RobotShop / Lynxmotion forum.
Can you clarify what was included with your motor as on the Cytron website they are selling a combo with motor and controller.
If you have that, you might only need a control solution.
HI Eric,
Nothing came with the motors. When I was building the crane I chose a motor that I considered to be the most appropriate for the task for which it was assigned. For example I used the Cytron SPG30-300K for rotation of the crane. All the motors are Series SPG30 so that they would all fit the space constraints and also so they were all 12 volt. One other reason was purely for continuity. I have run this crane for about 5 years using SPDT switches but now I want to change control to RC therefore I need the components necessary to make that happen. I don’t know what those components are. That is why I am seeking help on the forum to see if anyone could give a list of components to do that along with part numbers.
Regards
Paul
This is a wonderful work, nice assembly.
Your SPG30 make more sense now than the first “Series30 brushless” since the SPG30 are not brushless motors but brushed.
You can use a Brushed R/C DC Controller to gain that control. A Controller like the Sabertooth 5A R/C could work with your motor and that give you control over two motor per unit.
Do you have a R/C transmitter ?
I do not have transmitter. I need- transmitter
receiver
micro controlller
motor controllers
ESC’s
I need the whole works I am know it will cost but that is OK
To control a motor, you need a “motor controller” and there are many types.
The easiest is to go with controllers that are R/C capable so they can plug directly in a R/C receiver without any programming.
Unless you want to program your own configuration, you don’t need a Microcontroller and ESC’s are the same as Motor Controller.
You can go for an “Eclipse 7” R/C transmitter and Receiver and “Sabertooth Dual 5A” for the start.
One sabertooth will give you control over two motors and they can be connected directly to the R/C receiver.
There is even a mode in the sabertooth to control tracked vehicle like yours, it mix the signals.
If your motor need a bigger than 5A controller, you can look at the “Sabertooth Dual 12A” instead.
Not a lot more expensive for added safety.
