Mini Segway robot project

Hello all,

I’m currently trying to build by myself a Segway type balancing robot and would like to get some ideas to look for a suitable brushless dc motor. So at first the idea was making some assumptions on the robot. It will be 24cm tall, the wheels will have a radius of 4cm and the total mass will be about 4kg. I would like to achieve a minimum acceleration of 0.6 m/s2 and a maximum speed of 1.5 m/s. Taking this into account and simplifying the physics i thought of the robot as if it was an idealized box of 4kg and i calculated the load torque for the BLDC motor as Tl = massaccelerationradius*safety factor. I made the safety factor of 3 to oversize the motors. In total 2 motors will be used and i want them to achieve at least ~0.280 Nm torque and ~360rpm with them. When i was looking for some brushless gear motors, they where way too expensive or they couldn’t achieve those requirements. Some advices on it? my calculations make sense? Can someone recommend me a specific bloc motor? Thanks in advance for the help!

Regards,
Emmanuel

Hi Emmanuel,

Are you looking for a Brushled or Brushless motor ?
Most systems out there use standard brushed DC motor or Stepper motors.
