Mindstorms EV3 or Vex EDR for my project?

Good evening ,

I'm studying mathematics and computer science at university and I wanna get into robotics in my spare time.

I'm unsure wether to buy a Mindstorms Ev3 or a Vex EDR. Has anyone here experience with on of those two platforms?
I'd like to build an autonomous car, that is able to park itself with the help of ultrasonic sensors. The follow up project would be about a bunch of these cars communicating with each other and driving around in a "city" w/o hitting each other.
What's the best platform to use in that case?

Any recommendations/opinions on the subject are appreciated.

Well…

Hi BCE,

Good question! Unfortunately I can’t tell you personally about those kits, as I don’t have direct experience on them. I heard that the Vex is better thatn the Ev3 based on some Youtube reviews, but nothing else.

However, if I were you, I first would rather do a search on similar projects around to see how others have solve it.

I also suggest to check my review on the Ultimate 2.0 kit from makeblock as it has many parts to maybe make that project possible with more posibilities of expansion as it’s based on Arduino but as easy as Scratch. More information in my reviews and posts.

I look forward for your project so please post it as many details in LRM. And good luck!

Kind regards,

Francisco

EV3 Vs VEX IQ

The Mindstorms is more comparable to VEX’s IQ series:

VEX’s EDR series can create larger robots with a wide variety of motors and sensors, but starts at over twice the price as the EV3.
