I got my torso kit today and I quickly opened the box like a kid on Xmas .
I assembled it using the online assembly guide which was helpful in speeding up the assembly process. Unfortunately I forgot to specify black lexan when I ordered the kit so I am stuck with the Smokey color lexan. I was debating on going to home depot and picking up a can of chrome spray paint for the future. For now, I will leave it alone.
I need to epoxy the Hi-Tec servo horn to the custom lexan bot head bracket. For now, I am holding the bot head in place with my sexy hand.
This will finally give you an accurate idea as to the size of the bot head using the torso as a scale reference.
Wow, damn that hand erm i mean head looks sexy on the torso. It is a lot smaller than I thought. Canât wait to see the rest of the bot. Oh, shouldnât you have put the other servos in before you screwed the other half on?
Thanks Chunga, I was wondering what the head would look like mounted on the torso. I was not sure if I made it to large? to small? I really did not know. I took a wild guess when I made it in eMachineShop. It looks satisfactory to me.
That thar camera would be needin a different head.
The mounting hole for the camera is quite different, and the other eye has an IR LED, which needs a smaller hole.
I donât think Mikey has had that one made yet.
Right, Mike?
AnyhowâŠ
Looks like nice proportions to me.
Youâve clearly got the head servo on backwards, though.
Didnât you see the âthis way foreward =>â arrow on the underside of the servo?
Just kidding, the servo aint backwards, even if it is I intend to keep it this way. The reason? Because the head is pare shaped and when mounted to te servo the front of the head and the back of the head are lined up just right. If I swing the servo around, it would look like goofy from disney world.
The servo horn is drying with epoxy as we speak. As soon as that thar thing is complete, I will take more pictures, yeeehaaawwwâŠ
I forgot to mention that I had not abandoned the video camera head design. Like Nick said, the newer design requires a much larger eye socket and a smaller eye socket for a IR LED. I am putting this project on the back burner for now, and want to focus on building the biped, and experiment with walking gates and other code related things.
I might decide to jump the gun again and have it made later on. Who knows.
i see. it would be interesting if you inserted 1 camera into each eye. that way, if you planned on making ur biped RC you would have a way of determining the distance of an object (like our eyes). with only 1 camera, it is impossible to tell distance correctly withought geussind too much. though u might wanna know.
at least people can call your bot a Pencel Neck. it really doesnt have a neck. I do thing the head is ok ⊠maybe a little bit bigger would have fully balanced it out ⊠but still looks good.
next time you need to get that hand out of the pic
Here is a video I made with my crappy web cam. The poor video I think adds to the âstrangenessâ effect. I added a stereo sound track so If you got head phones, put them on to really enjoy the full effect of the video.
