Can this item be controlled by RS232 and what cable has to be used?

Welcome to the RobotShop community!
The RS232 standard does not cover enough details to know if it is compatible directly. Most people tend to imply UART with differential signals of ± 12 V DC when they discuss RS232, like the physical COM port behind a computer.
Regardless, the manufacturer does offer a USB interface board to use its actuators. This is known as RB-Irr-09. Unfortunately the product is not visible on our site yet (on its way) but it is still possible to order it at the same time as your linear servo motor actuator! This can be done by contacting our customer service department and asking them to add one (or more) RB-Irr-09 to your order.
