Micro-walkers?

Anyone ever play around with micro servo based “micro-walkers”?

The HS-81’s look decent for the price, so I’m going to piece together a lightweight 4 legged walker, 3dof per leg. Going to be tethered for the time being, eventually will move to Lithium if I can find a decent voltage regulator (read: small, light) to keep the voltage below 6v.

Parts for it should be in next week, or the following, I’ll post up in the projects section when I have it pieced together. Just wanted to know if anyone else has had any experience with this?

I’ve thought about building one of these, but I’ve wanted other projects more. I think it will work as long as it’s really light. If it’s too heavy, the micro servos are going to fail.

I purchased some HS-81’s a couple years ago and was pretty happy with them. I was modifying them for continuous rotation for a micro rover, but that’s another story.

Anyway, I believe the HS-81’s are available with metal gears. That may become necessary depending upon the number of legs in the walker. The HS-55’s are much smaller and lighter, and come in a sweet blue case. If you need to get some weight off the legs that may be an option.

I believe the MG version only have a 90 degree range of motion however. Anyway, work in progress of above mentioned micro quadrapod will be here:

Take a look at the topic I posted here:

There are some youtube videos showing their micro hexapods. Although the legs are 2DOF, the gaits are quite incredible.
