Is the problem that the SX and Propeller chips are not specifically targeted to robotics? In that case, then they would not really belong in the same category as the BS2. I should strike that whole segment, since most microcontrollers can be used in many different areas, and even the most specialized ones have some general purpose features. It really isn’t fair to categorize microcontrollers. I’m not sure what I was thinking when I wrote that.
The SX and propeller belong in the category with PICs and Atmel chips, while the BS2 and Basic Atom are hybrid controllers that consist of a PIC, SX or other prossers with support hardware and a bootloader. The SX does not usually use a bootloader when it is used as a stand alone chip.
It’s becoming more and more difficult to catagorize microcontrollers, so I am going to stop trying to. The lines are getting more and more blurred everyday.
I was looking for the place I wrote that questionable segment, but can’t seem to remember what section it was in.
That’s where it was, and I reworked that whole page. I’ll be revisiting my design for Walk 'N Roll soon, as I incorporate new stuff I have learned, including conversion of the design to use motors instead of continuous rotation servos, which will not be powerful enough to move the robot.
