Hi,
can this tilt sensor
robotshop.com/productinfo.aspx?pc=RB-Dfr-27&lang=en-US

be used withOUT 5V power? (in fact just used as a simple switch?). this would simplify the design and conserve power when it’s not tilted! it can directly be in series with an LED and resistor for example…why all the arduino code?

The “sensor” part simply allows or prevents current from flowing. When it’s not flowing, it does not consume any power.
