Meet Roamer

Meet Roamer. Roamer is a Quadraped Dog that uses a Windows 8.1 tablet for a brain and has a Logitec HD WebCam for a head. Roamer head is attached to a Pan/Tilt bracket. Servos: 8x MG-996R for legs and 2x S90 for Head Servos controlled using the Veyron Servo Controller I will be posting build pictures and videos of Roamer walking and detecting/tracking objects.

I recently added rubber to the end of Roamers legs.

Here is a short video of Roamer taking his first steps.

Impressive!

Wow! Now I can understand why you coulnd´t sleep these days!

It looks like you have a new friend around. I look forward for both the hardware and software description, even more the videos! Enjoy in the meantime.

Cool, JeffRo!I’m curious

Cool, JeffRo!

I’m curious about your crafting… is it made out with polystyrene sheets? How did you cut it?

And how is going the walking gait?

I failed with my MD-Hund (mainly because missed “hip” joints). Hope you can make it walk well with this set.

Hey Dickel

The material I used is 1/8" thick PVC Sheets, you can order it from McMaster Carr not sure if they supply your area.

I used a 80 tooth metal cutting saw blade on my jig saw to cut the two body sides.

For the legs I cut a basic shape with the Jig saw and then used a belt sander to round everything.

I used a dremel to cut out all the holes for the servos.

The walking gait has been a challenge as there is no pivot on the hips and there is also a 8" windows tablet that puts more weight on it.

I am still working to make the walking gait smoother, hopefully by the next video will look better.

Thank you Francisco.Once

Thank you Francisco.

Once everything is working I will put a detailed list of parts used.

Cool !

Nice to see you’re making progress. I’m excited how the gait is going to develope. Hopefully your brain won’t explode while figuring out the kinematics ;-).

unfortunetly I can’t see

unfortunetly I can’t see inner parts of this robot.

Can you give me some picture of inner parts? hopefully can get me inspired. thank you

Compact

Some of the issues you are encountering might be helped by making the body more compact, and slightly changing the distance of the leg segments. Really looking forward to seeing this evolve.

Roamer

I love the project Jeff.

I have long wanted someone to build an inspirational quad that could both walk, and have a brain and sensors.  Keep up the great work.

Regards,

Martin

Good to hear from you

Good to hear from you Martin. Thanks for the compliments.

I have some re-engineering to do and then it will be functional.

One of the problems I have

One of the problems I have that I did not think of was hips, it has none. Will be adding 4 more servos in on each leg as a hip to control movements better.

The hips don’t lie

Speaking of hips, here is another inspirational quad to look at.  Check out the videos.
