We would like to add PV cells to supplement the battery on the mbot2 STEM Educational kit so it is both solar and battery powered. Is this possible?

Hi @lmitchell and welcome to our forum.
It seems that there is no complete solution (like an add-on) from Makeblock that could do this.
But, I’ve found one simple and interesting solution online.

It seems that this user just found an external battery that has PV cells integrated and then it is just mounted on the top of the mBot so you can charge its battery.
This could work for you.

I guess external battery is charging lithium battery inside mBot.

Apologies I dont have an mBot, I am the producer working with a team. I’m assuming there must be a port on the mBot to recharge the battery?
