mBot V1.1 - 2.4 G

Hi,

I’ve received my ‘mBot V1.1 2.4G’ last week.

Today I tried to connect it with a Google Chromebook by using the USB cable and the mBlock-app.
It worked at the beginning, but suddenly (when I tried to upload some commands into mBot) it stopped working.

I’ve pressed the reset button, turned the on/off switch, but it doesn’t do anything (not even beep).
The blue light in front are blue and inside the mCore Case, a red light is on. Even the button in front doesn’t work…

Now I tried it with a ‘normal’ laptop and even that doesn’t work.

How can I fix it? Can you help me?

Sincerely,

Gert Corremans

Hi,

Have you tried the factory reset procedure? You can find it on the product page under Useful Links.

Sincerely,

Hey Scharette,

Thanks for the quick reply.

I did the factory reset procedure and I can make it just move now when I make something in mBlock.
However, I can get no sound/beep/light out of it, and my IR doesn’t work either…
When I press the on-board button, it used to switch to the different modes, but that also doesn’t work anymore.

It also makes a high tone the whole time…

I thought the mBot was more easier to use.
I’m a teacher and wanted to use it in class, but when it is that difficult to make it do something…I feeI like I’ve made the wrong choice… :frowning:

Please prove me wrong!

Greeting,

Gert

Hi Gert,

The mBot is about as easy as you can get with an Arduino based platform.
However, can you explain exactly what you want to achieve with it ? The “Factory Reset” procedure is written for the “starter kit” so you have to select your own kit the “mBot” if you want to have the firmware that was provided from factory.

Let us know what you want to do and we will be able to help

Hi Eric,

First of all, thank you for the quick reply.
The problem is now solved!
It was indeed the fact that the factory reset was for the ‘starter kit’ and not for the mBot (altough I just followed the procedure given on the site).

I teach children from 11-12 years old (primary school) and since one year I try to use programming and robotics (STEM) in the classroom. Therefor I bought the mBot 2.4G. The idea is that the children can use the mBlock-program on the PC and program the robot so it can acually do what they programmed.
So now the problem is solved, we will succeed!!

However, I don’t quit understand how we can ‘upload’ a program to the mbot with the Mblock-program, so that they can for example program it to go 2 seconds forward, turn right, 3 seconds forward, change color,…etc. in the order they programmed.
I tried it before with the arduino-mode, but apparently I did something wrong so the mbot was reset.

Is there an easier way to do so?

Once again, thank you for this usefull information!

Sincerely,

Gert

Hi Gert,

The mBlock software is nice as you do not need to send anything to the mBot in term of firmware.
A firmware on the controller will allow for live play of the code, for that just select the “Upgrade Firmware” option in the drop down menu “Connect”

Once done you will be able to create a block code and click the flag to start the code.

You can’t have the original code (with the IR remote and everything) and the live code at the same time.
