Mapping/ long range FPV wing build

I am building a wing that if possible I would like some input on components please. I will be using it to do mapping and also long range FPV flights.

I’ll be using a Crossfire from Team Black Sheep for RC control, 800mW 2.4 VTX for video. I plan to order the flight controller setup from you if you can point me in the right direction. I’d like to use the Pixhawk 2.1 with 2 Here GNSS for Pixhawk 2.1 (for GPS - I hear that using 2 increases the accuracy?), LIDAR-Lite 3 Laser Rangefinder, I’d also like to use a pitot airspeed sensor. I would also need OSD for my FPV needs. I also plan to use a Canon - PowerShot G7 X Mark II for taking the photos so I’ll need a way to trigger it to shoot. Any other bits and pieces needed to put this together??

Thanks for the help,

josh

Hi Josh,

The PixHawk 2.1 is sure the way to go along the Here+ RTK GNSS.
In this kit you have the two units and yes you need two to get the GNSS accuracy.

Regarding the Airspeed we have the following units:
Vector Airspeed Sensor w/ Pitot
Airspeed MicroSensor Kit

Some information about OSD and the module here:
3DR OSD Main Board Mini OSD
Minim OSD Quick Installation Guide

We do not have a trigger system for a camera.

Thanks for your reply! So I placed the order but only ordered one of the Here GNSS for Pixhawk 2.1 units because I also plan to be using the LIDAR-Lite 3 Laser Rangefinder too. Am I missing something with the whole “GPS” thing or is this sufficient? Also thank you for the links to the OSD and air speed sensor. I do have a sensor coming but I am curious what kind of info the OSD will be able to display.

Thanks again for your help!!

Josh

Hi Josh,

The GPS unit will give you the GPS functions but with standard accuracy which can be enough for most people.
Here is a video we found on YouTube with a PixHawk and Minim OSD:

perfect, thanks! Will I need an FTDI adapter to program this 3DR OSD Main Board Mini OSD?

If you want to re-program it yes.

ok. Is there a particular one that is to be used?

We have many brands all pretty similar HERE.

Hello, I am working on getting this pixhawk setup and I am stumped a bit. Would there be anyone that could help me out in this? I have radio link setup and have gone through the preflight checks. I am getting a few failures but when I arm the system the servos work but not the motor. The esc just beeps. I’m not sure if yous have phone support but that would be great!

Thanks, josh

Hi Josh,

Have you already followed the ArduCopter guide ?
You might want to do the ESC calibration in particular since an ESC beeping mean it doesn’t see it’s minimum signal to “arm” itself.

I have gone through the guide and I have also done the esc calibration. I am using qgroundcontrol as opposed to mission planner but I dont think that should make much difference.
