Madkatz PS2 controller series 200 + mini atom board

Greetings from the UK. I tried to mate one of these to my basic atom mini bot board. Admittedly the hookup I used was a bit dodgy, and involved cannibalising some servo extender cables I had lying around. This I had to do, as I have not been able to discover any online UK robotics stores that supply the necessary playstation controller adaptor cables. Does anyone know if it is necessary to actually hook up the vibration motors for the thing to work at all?

In the interim, I’ve gone for an admittedly overengineered alternative - I’ve bought one of those Hitec Laser 4 radio controllers. Is there a tutorial available for one of these chaps? BTW, the thing I’m trying to control is a lynxmotion extreme hexapod 2.

I have managed to mate an SP03 text-to-speech processor to my atom board no problems, and am communicating with that via the I2c bus, using pins 8 & 9.

I think I will eventually settle on using one of those 3600 maH Sanyo battery packs for the servo power supply, at present I am running off a 5v output from an old computer power supply while I iron out the bugs, so to speak.

Hope to hear from you chaps soon.

Well, after having ripped open a PS2 controller last week for the kids at my FIRST group, I can take a guess.
I don’t think it’s actually necessary to hook up the vibration motors.
Cutting off motor power will probably just result in the motors not turning when the controller tells them to.
