Lynxmotion SSC-32U USB Servo Controller - CONTACT CLOSURE

Hello,
I am constructing 4 in-ceiling mechanical drop down surround speakers. I would like to use some hi torque servos for it. I was thinking of controlling all of the servos with the Lynxmotion SSC-32U. I would trigger the action with a z-wave relay. Couple of questions:

  1. This controller can run on its own right? I don’t need to have the usb plugged into the unit and a pc running the program, correct?
  2. Can this unit accept an external contact closure to trigger an action?
  3. What is the max distance you can run a servo cable? Can it be 30’? I realize that I can use a higher gauge cable. Does the signal cable need to be shielded?

I like the use of a central programmable controller so that I can adjust settings if they get out of whack. May there be another better way to do this?

I apologize for sounding like a newbie. I guess I am.

Thanks

Tom

Hi,

]The SSC-32 Servo Controller is not programmable, therefore it won’t run on its own. It will need a PC to control it. You can also interface a microcontroller with the SSC-32 using serial communication, like an Arduino Board (UNO for example). Or, you can use a programmable Servo Controller like the Arduino compatible Flyduino-A 12 Servo Controller/:m]
]The SSC-32 has digital and analog inputs. Please take a look at the User Manual for more information./:m]

As we mentioned, the best way to do this might be to connect a microcontroller (that will have all the inputs connected to it) to a servo controller like an SSC-32.
