Lynxmotion SSC-32U Bluetooth Servo Controller

Hi,
I am new to robotics.
I purchased a Lynxmotion SSC-32U Bluetooth Servo Controller, and have it working with the USB cable, but can’t figure out how to connect to my laptop PC via Bluetooth.
Do I need to add a dongle?
Are there any instructions on how to set up and connect it?
Thanks!

Hi,

The Bluetooth Bee that comes with the RB-Lyn-851 basically acts likes a replacement for the USB interface chip (FTDI’s FT232R) that’s on the SSC-32U. Therefore, once paired with your computer by Bluetooth, it will add a VCP (Virtual COM Port). This port can be used just like the COM port you obtain when the board is connected by USB to your computer.

Therefore, the first step will be to connect/pair the Bluetooth Bee with your computer and ensure it provides you with a COM port. You can check for the COM port in Device Manager under the Ports (COM & LPT) section.

Microsoft has plenty of articles about Bluetooth devices and how to connect them to your computer depending on your Windows version, such as these:
windows.microsoft.com/en-ca/windows7/add-a-bluetooth-enabled-device-to-your-computer
windows.microsoft.com/en-ca/windows-10/getstarted-connect-to-bluetooth-devices
windows.microsoft.com/en-ca/windows7/add-a-bluetooth-or-other-wireless-or-network-device-frequently-asked-questions

Of course, make sure your computer/laptop does have a valid/activated Bluetooth module inside/connected to it. If that is not the case, you can always use one of the many Bluetooth USB dongles available, such as this one or that one. Please note that both of these modules - just like the one bundled with the RB-Lyn-851 - are Bluetooth 2.0 compatible only and will not work with modern devices that require Bluetooth 4.0 BLE.

Sincerely,
