Lynxmotion - Hunter VTail 400 & 500

We are very close to releasing the manuals, including
MultiWii QuickStart & Electronics Guide

Here is where it will be:

I didn’t try to put the GPS on the pole, hoping I don’t have to but I may if it seems to be a problem. The weather here is horrible, so there is nowhere good to try this DJI setup out and I don’t feel like messing this up til I get a nice enough day to play. My order for the second Vtail 500 frame is in, with a bunch of props. I found some time to work on it last night and I am trying out the KK2.0 board on it. Got the Vtail motor layout option selected, finished the motor rotation, going to calibrate the ESCs and work on some different settings I have found from sources on the net. I am working off some setup that David from flite test has on his Vtail, although his vtail is props on top, figure it would be a good start.

I took the 3DR 820kV motors that I have, clipped them down a bit and soldered on 3.5mm plugs, I don’t know why the heck 3DR decided to go 4.0mm, just about every other ESC/Motor out is using 3.5mm. I got this Qbrain 4-in-1 20A ESC a while back that I haven’t used, so I figure try it out, makes a nice clean setup. So I will probably take this out, not as worried if I mess it up a bit, I have a couple spare 3DR motors and they are not too bad to replace and KK2.0 boards are pretty cheap, granted always on back-order. I am planning on eventually getting the newer KK2.1 board. Plan is to mess with KK2.0 board, then switch this over to the APM 2.5+

Very nice, when will we have a flight log…

On the side, i have uploaded a MultiWii project for VTail platforms.

User manuals are to follow…

OH… btw you can take a look here for the KK2.X VTail (Know working) setup.

Tell us what you think…

Lynxmotion - MultiWii - Software Configuration - v1.0.pdf

I was checking out the post on the KK2.0 board, I got the ASP cable to flash my KK2.0 board firmware, but I just started out with the Vtail config and followed the motor layout, which actually is mirror opposite of what you posted out on RC Groups. I started out with mixes that I found from David over at flight test. First flight out with it, wasn’t too bad, there were occasional wind gust but nothing to major. My Auto Level is pretty wacked out, but with Auto Level off it wasn’t bad, I am going to boost my stick scaling a bit - I kept it fairly low to mess around. I keep chipping up the back props playing in this parking lot, can’t wait for the damn snow to melt so I can fly over the grass fields. It was pretty chilly and it was getting late, so I didn’t really play with the settings tonight, hoping for a decent weekend.

Here is a video I posted on my YouTube channel: youtu.be/NH6iueu1mJA

Can you clarify what is the “mirror opposite” of what I posted? The prop rotation?
You can, in fact, reverse all props and it will fly the same.
Very nice video, it look goods in the sun.

Yeah that’s what I meant I followed the default VTail motor layout, and the rotations are setup to be opposite of what you guys had on the site. I am gonna mess around some tomorrow since it may be kinda nice out. I have this: hobbyking.com/hobbyking/stor … _Port.html

going to setup with your MultiWii config and play around with that as well.

I decided to get a MultiWii on here, I have the Pro board with GPS, but my buddy is currently trying that out on his deadcat. So I grabbed the HobbyKing 328P MultiWii. Downloaded what Eric put up there and changed to the 328 board, which is already in the config. I just used everything else as was setup - I saw the other mixing but didn’t change any of those. Had to mess with endpoint setup on my transmitter, currently using the Turnigy. I loaded the Vtail400 .wmi in the config tool, even though mine is a 500, You can see in the video I need to do some pid adjustments - I will try some things tomorrow, the weather should be nice.

Here is the vid, just flying around in the driveway in the dark

Cool, it work well.
You used the file from the lynxmotion website?
If so, an alternate mixing is already define in the “New VTail.h”

I love this frame. It was a nice enough day and the wind died down enough to play, so I took out both Vtail 500s, After you watch this you will see why I am going to abandon the DJI Naza for this, the Y6 config doesn’t seem to provide much roll & pitch, the yaw also spins out of control. Anyway this was provided me a great example of how the Vtail handles crashing. I went in pretty fast into a concrete area - I would like to say it came out with out a scratch but it didn’t, I am happy to say that all it had was scratches on some of the edges, nothing broken.

I switched over to fly the MultiWii, I got it all setup with the 328P from Hobby King, I used all the Lynxmotion software and settings with just changing the board to my HobbyKing one, worked nicely. The first video I am flying my 820Kv 3DR motors with the 10inch GEMFAN props, it probably would have done better with the 10inch Slo Fly APC props which are much stiffer. I later at night switched out to the 1000Kv motors and it’s much smoother, I may not need to do much if any adjusting of the PIDs from the configuration you can download from here.

Eric, love this frame - the DJI Naza is off - next up Project APM time. Hoping to find enough time to spend time in the code, so far no one has done anything substantial on the Vtail, so I gotta good bit of learning, haven’t messed in the codebase for the APM yet, but it will be worth it.

Hope you enjoy the vid: youtu.be/rwWSY3YK18g

Thanks again for all the try you do…
There is a Manual mode on DJI that i will try because DJI stuff are for very stable flight, not really sport like the frame.

More flight video, it was cloudy but now with the 1000Kv motors on sporting those 10inch GemFan props I went to the parking lot of the local Mennonite Center - which has a nice big field beside. I also brought out my Flite Test build of the FT-22 Raptor. I switched out the APC props, but screwed up and turned off the GoPro. The first vid is running the GemFan. I put on the cubecam when I mounted the APC props, so following this I will have some FPV viewpoint

Here it is: youtu.be/UxZkOI60I7k

Eric if any of my vids are useful in anything your doing, please feel free to use them, clips for tutorial, example or any marketing. I really love this frame, so glad you are setup with Lynxmotion

Okay this is my best video - I got the APC props on, I went out to the local municipal building where we have some sports fields and big farm field out behind - great spot to fly. The sun was up so I go some nice video. I have both GoPro and FPV video shot from the cubecam mounted on the Hunter Vtail. I did a bit of picture in picture with iMovie. Hope you enjoy:

so Eric i wanna canopy kit to put on the current quad - we need a 500 version - also contemplating getting a 400 trying 1100 - 1200 kv motors with 8" props

The 500 Canopy has been developed but just waiting for it to be tested and released… I hope.
