Lynxmotion Aluminum A4WD1 Rover Kit

Hi,

I would like to get help for selecting a right ESC for Lynxmotion Aluminum A4WD1 Rover Kit.

Can you suggest some ESCs which can be connected to Nvidia Jetson TX2 and control the 4 motors of Lynxmotion Aluminum A4WD1 Rover ?

Thank you,

@twlee5407 Welcome to the RobotShop Community. Normally “ESC” is associated with a BLDC motor, though in the case of the Lynxmotion A4WD1, the motors are brushed, so you need a DC motor controller. The suggested motor controller is the Sabertooth:

The Jetson has a USB option, or 3.3V serial, I2C. Since the Sabertooth operates at 5V logic, you’ll need a dual channel logic level converter:

Alternatively, if you verify the pinout used on a Raspberry Pi Motor Controller Hat, there’s a chance it might work with the pinout of the Jetson, for example:

According to the Jetson manual:

“Each Jetson developer kit includes a 40-pin expansion header. Many of the pins can be used either as GPIO or as “special function I/O” (SFIO) such as I2C, I2S, etc. The 40‑pin header lets you connect a Jetson developer kit to off-the-shelf Raspberry Pi HATs (Hardware Attached on Top) such as Seeed Grove modules, SparkFun Qwiic products, and others.”

Hi Chenson,

Thank you for the great suggestions. I think that I will keep these suggestions on top.

Do I need to purchase two Sabertooth motor driver for the Lynxmotion A4WD1, or is there a motor drive which can control the four DC motors simultaneously?

Thank you,

If you plan to operate both motors on the left together, as well as both motors on the right together (rather than each motor independently) then you only need one Sabertooth controller which is dual channel. The connections would be:

There are not many quad DC motor controllers - most normally use two dual DC motor controllers instead.

Hi @cbenson
do I get a credit for pointing out the typo in this headline?
[there are many more in the shop, so I’d get rich]

:face_with_monocle: Trying to find the typo actually…

  • Cytron is the name of the manufacturer
  • 2x10A means dual channel 10A each
  • Motor Driver (self evident)
  • HAT is what they call boards which plug into a Raspberry Pi (pin for pin)
  • Raspberry Pi is the single board computer

exactly: RasPberry :+1:

:flushed:

um… rasberries taste a lot better than raspberries… but they’re incredibly hard to find
(Passed it along to have it corrected).
