Lynx Motion Contest Entry: Project ODT BOT

This was a project I did for my robotic class. I posted this because I felt that it fell into the category of the lynx motion SES part of the contest.

Plus I did spend like $500+ at lynx motion on parts

So I figured I would show you guys and see what everyone thought…

**you should know that this was not only my first attempt at this build but i consider this to be a case study. The omni drive system is not my design and is patented. i designed and built this purely for fun to see if it would work, and it did!

Some lynx parts I used were:

-Aluminum Motor Mount for GHM 1 - 4 / 12 - 13
-Track Sprocket - 6 Link 
-Wide x 21 links ~23
-7.2 Volt Ni-MH 2800mAh Battery Pack
-Pillow Block - 6mm 
-Universal Hub - 6mm
-Gear Head Motor - 7.2vdc 50:1 175rpm (6mm shaft)

I have redesigned it since I finished about a month agoÃ¢â‚¬Â¦ the new version has the 9 link sprockets in place of the 6 and is about twice the size, I hope to finish soon Ã¢â‚¬Â¦

Wow! Now that’s the way to document a build! I love the chassis logo too. Can’t wait to see some vid of it in motion.

WOW!

Many pictures! I love the design of the quad tracks. You did a beautiful job with the machine work and the design is very unique. I’m not sure I understand how those rollers will work since I have never seen this before. I guess Ill see in the video.

Great unique design! IÃ¢â‚¬â„¢ve seen bots with wheeled rollers but IÃ¢â‚¬â„¢ve never seen the rollers on tracks. They give good flexible movements on a flat surface. Seems like youÃ¢â‚¬â„¢ve got a lot of tools to play with.

When the two tracks on the same side rotate in oposite direction the bot will move sideways?

Omni-Directional Vehicle (ODV). The images of ODVs and related vehicles was remarkable. Omnidirectional vehicles have been demonstrated to operate under real-world conditions which would stop conventional vehicles plus mechanically, they are very simple machines. Hillery McGowen

I like this project, it shows a lot of creative work and is well documented.

I would really enjoy seeing a video (even a poor one). This would be a fun project to do and it would be great if someone sold the parts to modify the Lynxmotion track to add the ODV capability.

This is the best custom bot of all submitted bots. Although the criteria was to have most of the bot consisting of Lynxmotion components, this one was well documented and went from 3D model design concept to a real world machine with the end product identical to the design concept. Very well done.
