My LR3 (Open Air) is rotating only in an anti-clockwise direction – i.e. after pausing at the dumping location, it then continues to rotate anti-clockwise instead of rotating clockwise back to its starting position.
Hi Mat,
Thank you very much. That much detail is much more helpful to me. Based on your records, the place you purchased from is RobotShop (www.robotshop.com). I work for the manufacturer, Automated Pet Care Products, www.litter-robot.com. We use the distributors to assist with distribution and warranty overseas to help reduce warranty cost to customers and it can become confusing for us. I’m glad that you purchased through an authorized channel as this is much better for warranty coverage.
At this time, I have a couple of recommendations based on your further comments. Your unit is much older than I anticipated - good - but, the process for a reset is not available. Please do not power cycle the unit as it will not clear any glitches in the code, unfortunately. For this, I would recommend when checking those metal terminals that you press on the plastic a few times to engage them and ensure they are both correctly seated and flush in their slot. This will ensure they are not simply "disconnected’ from each other and causing the issue. We have heard of some bases being dropped or moved and these can come loose in the process.
Due to the warranty and the purchased extended warranty, I would recommend you contact their office again as they do carry the LR3 in Europe now. They did not carry it there until the second quarter of this year. If your pinch detect terminals (the ones in the waste port area) are not corroded or visibly out of alignment, I would suggest it is likely a sensor issue in your wiring harness.
Mat, I hope this information helps!
Best Regards,
Leigh

Hi Leigh,
Apologies, It’s easy for me to email from this account…
I did register this under my existing name and address when I purchased directly with you.
Maybe the following details will help;
Order #387110
Web Order #100073986
Ordered on Dec 4th 2015
Billing & Shipping;
Mathew Carey
6 Colchester Road, Harold Wood
Romford, England, United Kingdom
RM3 0XP
Order placed;
Litter-Robot III Open Air Automatic Self-Cleaning Litter Box (Product Code: RB-Ltr-67) – USD $429.00
Litter-Robot 2 Drawer Liners (100 Pack) (Product Code: RB-Ltr-46) – USD $39.99
Litter-Robot 3-Year Extended Warranty (Product Code: RS-Rbo-09) – USD $35.09
Shipping (UPS Saver) – USD $206.69
Total USD $710.77
+20% VAT, + 3.7% sales tax – USD 101.67 (paid to UPS).
Note that this was ordered under my below email address (), where you had sent confirmations or order and dispatch.
I have tried switching off / on again, but not by removing the power cable (whilst switched on) – I will try this tonight.
The cycle does pause at the dump, for the usual amount of time (1 – 2 seconds), but then rather than rotate in the opposite direction (clockwise direction), it then continues to rotate anti-clockwise.
This will only last 1 – 2 seconds before stopping again, and then the yellow light begins to blink continuously (before this the yellow light is in its usual solid on ‘in progress’ state).
At this stage the Cycle, Empty, and Reset buttons have no effect. I then press the power button (just one single press), and I then see a rapid sequence of blue, then yellow, then red light, before the yellow light remains on as the globe continues to rotate in an anti-clockwise direction (this causes the guard / key spring to make a loud crack / popping sound).
This will continue to rotate all the way around (full 360) until it reaches the dump, and the above process is repeated as described, above.
The unit has been cleaned as per instructions, and currently contains no litter in the globe of draw.
I had checked the metal connections of the hood to the base, and these are in perfect condition (the globe is used inside our home only), however I had not seen the terminals by the waste port and drawer full indicator lenses, so I will also check these tonight and let you know.
Please note that before I purchased this, I had many phone conversations with your office to discuss delivery to the UK, and the warranty (as I also purchased the extended warranty).
I was advised that, until the item goes on sale in Europe, that I would need to send back the components (most likely the base) if any problem were to happen, but they would most likely be able to talk me through any repair, and send parts as necessary.
I was also advise that this would only be temporary, as the item would soon be sold in the UK – and that when this happens, I would be able to have any repairs done (if I could not be talked though a DIY repair) through a European shop (which I believe is France). Was this incorrect information?
It would be far too costly to pay for the base to be shipped to the US, and also to pay for the return shipping.
As you can see above, I previously paid $206.69 for shipping (and unfortunately had to pay an additional $100 in taxes). It would therefore cost me at least $400 in postage.
I will have another look tonight, and try the suggested ‘power cycle’ and also check the connections that you mentioned.

Hi Mat,
I still cannot locate an order under your name or email. Do you perhaps have the order number associated with your purchase?
This is not a common or known fault for us. There have been a few related failures I can find, but, not many. For this, I do not have diagnostic other than doing a power cycle and hoping it’s a software glitch, but, I find it doubtful. To do this, leave the unit powered On then unplug it from the base of the unit. Wait 10 seconds, then plug it back in. Your unit should start a cycle upon plugging it back in.
If the cycles continues anti-clockwise after reaching dump - does it stop at dump and then keep going, or does it just continue past as if it never saw it?
If you took look inside the base, by the waste port and drawer full indicator lenses, there are some metal terminals in there. What is their condition? Have you had any issues with yellow flashing?
Unfortunately, for shipment, the base would need to come back directly to us in the USA. We will need to create an RMA number. Once it’s repaired, we can ship it back to a USA address, but, the logistics are typically very expensive for the travel to/from the UK to USA - this is why we have distributors around the world to assist with warranty coverage. The office in France is a distributor of ours called RobotShop. They would sell parts but I’m not sure if they’ll service units that have not been sold through them. Unfortunately, we do not have much repair instruction as we cover repairs/labor/shipping (USA) under warranty so we can see and evaluate issues. The other option is that you could purchase a new base through RobotShop robotshop.com/uk/litter-robot-iii-open-air-complete-base.html - which should solve the issue entirely.
Best Regards,
Leigh

Hi Leigh,
Many thanks for the quick response.
I purchased myself, directly from you. I had it shipped to England.
Is this a known fault?
Are there no fixes, or diagnostics that I could perform myself (through
your guidance)?
I could fit new parts myself, if required / possible.
Failing this, I can ship the base back to you.
Would this need to go back to your branch (where I putchased), or does your
office in France now sell & service the LR3?

Hi,
My LR3 (Open Air) is continuing to rotate in an anti-clockwise direction.
I have removed the hood, globe, tray, cleaned (as per instructions),
reconstructed, checking that the rear and side clips are in correct
position, and black key is correctly inserted. I have also checked that it
remains perfectly flat (on a wooden floor), with no obstructions.Unfortunately the issue persists.
I will note that the guard is slipping, and I do need to resolve this
(have just found a guide that shows how to retention the spring), but I’m
not sure this would cause the problem.Would be grateful for help.

Hi,
My LR3 (Open Air) is continuing to rotate in an anti-clockwise direction.
I have removed the hood, globe, tray, cleaned (as per instructions), reconstructed, checking that the rear and side clips are in correct position, and black key is correctly inserted. I have also checked that it remains perfectly flat (on a wooden floor), with no obstructions.
Unfortunately the issue persists.
I will note that the guard is slipping, and I do need to resolve this (have just found a guide that shows how to retention the spring), but I’m not sure this would cause the problem.
Would be grateful for help.
