Looking forward to receiving my V-Tail 500

Hi all, nice to have joined this forum and look forward to some interesting info: as the heading says i have just placed my order for a V-Tail 500, Thanks to Eric, at the moment i have a Dji f450 a Dji f550 a RCT800 and a couple of homemade quads, the first 3 all have Naza gps systems, but i have read that it wont support the V-Tail so i think i will be using the KK2.1 Board as i have one, also i have 4 Turnigy D2830/11 1000kv motors and also 4 Turnigy plush 30a ESCs, I would like to hear from members what they think of this setup on a V/T 500 i will also be using 3s Lipos as i have lots of them, i would love to hear if anyone is using a setup like this and what props they recommend. also could someone recommend settings for the KK2 with this setup. Thanks in advance and Happy New Year to you all.

Damien.

Hi Damien,

Nice to see people already posting, i like that…!

Unless someone convince some DJI Asian… There will not be a vtail mix on the NAZA… :frowning:
But yes you will be able to use your KK board.

Setup look goodbut usualy a bit high kv for a 10" setup.
try 10" or maybe 9" prop on 3s

here is a copy of a kk board setup of someone else.
he got it working pretty good. of course pid might be different from your setup…

Gratz on ordering up the Hunter VTail 500, I see mine is actually sitting at a local post office with delivery set for Thursday. I got a few MultiWii boards - I need to do more digging, been trying to get the MultiWii 328p from HobbyKing working with my DJI F450 but doesn’t seem to want to arm, messing with MinThrottle settings and may have to do the ESC calibration. At the point I am messing in the code to see if I can get some feedback, MultiWii info seems scattered. I have been spoiled by Naza boards & APM boards which I found easy to work with. KK2.0 is also pretty easy and one thing about that board I love is on the fly tweaking with the LCD. I would just go with KK2.0 if I was just going to do stunt flying and such, but I have bigger plans for the Hunter V-Tail, I want to get my FPV setup, want the GPS hold, other features

That being said I just got my Quadrino from Flying Einstein in yesterday - Colin is very responsive and has a nice config tool - It’s a MultiWii with more support and they have a good setup of tutorials. I picked up the Quadrino Zoom, the GPS unit and the cover, I love the EZ-Connect setup so I will be switching my focus on getting that working with the Hunter V-Tail after New Years.

I plan on being active in posting my experiences with the Hunter V-Tail. I will probably be ordering another kit for replacement parts as I intend on trying out different boards to see how they work, MultiWii, KK2.0 and APM 2.5, also looking into CC3D as well.

Many Tnx Eric for the KK2 Settings, i will be trying them when i get my new V/T500 frame, its going to be 2-4 weeks and am looking forward to playing with that, also Hi Roboteer, thanks for your input, to be honest i am a bit spoiled with Dji Naza i have it on a few of my crafts, and it makes flying so easy with att hold & return to home, i had a couple of multiwii pro boards which i just could not get to grips with, i ended up selling them on eeebbbaaayyy, but i have a new KK2.1 which i plan to fit to my HVT 500 and am looking forward to better weather long evenings and working with that, its nice to see this forum for the V-Tail and i will be doing a lot of reading and asking questions, i would like to wish all here a very Happy New Year. Thanks Guys.

Hello,

I’ve been researching this hobby quite a bit lately and plan on getting into it in a few months.
My goal is FPV and aerial photography. I feel I have a good handle on FPV and RC equipment, but
haven’t decided on which quad to use. This V-Tail has caught my fancy but I didn’t find anything as far as flying it FVP.
I’m looking forward to your experiences cdraptor.

The weak part of my knowledge is motor/prop/battery selection. In my case I’d be looking to maximize flight time,
with smooth/stable flight.

While my research continues, my grandson and I are practicing inside with a Syma X1 quad “he” got for Christmas. In the NE US it’s been
windy and cold and now a snowstorm on the way. I figure any stick time is good time. At this rate, by the time I make a purchase I’ll be an expert at hovering in close quarters in manual mode.

I’m looking forward to everyone’s experience wit the V-Tail and any info.

I got the Hunter V-tail 500 together, I have a Fatshark 420 CCD pilot cam mounted on, fits perfectly like it was made for it - the cable also runs all the way to the back where I am going to mount my Fatshark 600mW Transmitter - going to work on some 3D printed mount to attach to the back frame & cross brace - with the props mounted facing down you got plenty of room for cool antenna. I am going to work with the Quadrino which mounts perfectly onto the electronics area, I have the black cover on mine - haven’t installed the GPS part yet.

I currently have some nice 1000Kv motors on - I am probably not going to go crazy and add a bunch of OSD/Telemetry so I think the 1000Kv will give me enough lift and fun flying performance. The wife got me an 800Kv T-Motor MT2216-12, so I will probably get more in the next few months - I have to say this frame has some room for stuff, it’s very nice - so getting together some lower Kv for more lift will allow me to play around with added load. I have been flying the DJI Phantom, DJI F450 (both running 920Kv motors) - my 3DRobotics frame with Telemetry, OSD & video setup including GoPro mounted performed very well with the 850Kv motors.

Now for Lynxmotion/Robotshop crew - prop selection and mounting, You guys provided the rotation, assuming looking down from the top, what is the standard/reverse setup for the back, do you mount the props with text facing down, or do you do like a pusher plane where the text faces forward - in this case up? I currently have 1045 Gemfans on it - with the angled Vtail do you switch up prop sizes differently between front / back?

That being said how soon will it be before Lynxmotion is selling props?

Joel - I am going to attach some pics

Well I found the answers to my questions - on rcgroups I found Thread with Eric, Bledi and JohnnyGab.

  1. propsize 10s on 500, 8s on 400
  2. props mount text up even on back - kinda figured it worked like pusher plane
  3. props all the same size

Exaclty…

Some people did experience with smaller back prop.
But the sketch of Multiwii i posted take care of that with all the same size prop.

We will sell props…
They are arrived and will be listed online very soon.

Nice assembly…

Thanks for the pics and info. Your setup looks real nice. That was one thing I noticed about the
V-Tail frame was placement of equipment. Especially as far as antennas and cameras go.

Pure coincidence, but I was also looking at the mt2216-12 motors. (I’ve been on vacation this week,
lots of time for research). I was thinking about the -11 (900kv). One limiting factor is prop size with
the v-tail.

Eric, what would be max prop diameter with 500?

Hi again, i just received my new Hunter V-Tail 500 kit today Thanks to Lynxmotion & Robotshop, i built the frame quite easily in about 1 hour, and it is a very well designed frame indeed, i hope to get a couple of hours this evening to get some electrics installed, i have a 4 in 1 ESC 25a x 4 same as this one ebay.co.uk/itm/AGM-Multi-Rot … 1055910594 i would like to use it as it is very compact and would make a tidy build plus the fact that i do have one already, i would like to hear if anyone else has used a 4 in 1 esc unit on this frame, i will post later and keep you up to date with my build.

i have just put together a 400 v-tail and am thinking of swapping out my 4 esc for one of these please could you let me know how it goes as i like the idea of a neat and tidy v-tail

Thanks

i have installed my motors , 4 in 1 ESC , KK2.1 Board , Receiver ,and wired all motors on my V-Tail 500, i would like to ask everyone so as i am sure its correct, if i look at craft from above & facing forward, which motor is No: 1 -4 eg: top left 1 top right 2 and so on and also rotation as viewed from this position, i have programmed kk2 with Robot Gurus settings and board will arm ok, and motors are turning, also i am doing some googling trying to find out how to calibrate the 4-in 1 ESC with a Throttle Hub, any advise here would also be appreciated, i will add some photos when i eventually get build finished, Thanks all.

Here is a proven setup for the KK2.0
rcgroups.com/forums/showpost … count=1876

Yes Thanks RobotGuru, this is the setup i have used, it is posted in 2nd post.

Just need someone to tell me the motor config numbers 1-4 and rotation, is it same setup as quad x config except for rear motors upside down ??? or different.

This is all told in the link i sent you earlier.
For KK2.X

M1 front left is CCW, M2 front right is CW, M3 rear left is CW, and M4 rear right is CCW

Sorry, Robot Guru, think i was over anxious with the kk2 settings, over looked that bit LOL… got it now and will let you know how i get on later.

Many Thanks.

My name is Eric Nantel - DiaLFonZo not Robot Guru. This is only a title…

Got another one flying the KK2.0 today. (A customer)

Just a note, make sure you mount the prop with the size text facing up. I so cannot wait for the snow/ice to get the heck out of here, it is so nasty and I am jonesing bad to get the DJI Naza V2 powered Vtail 500 out in the wild, the limited garage space is driving me crazy - I had to put put the Vtail on the shelf and I got the Blade Nano QX zipping around my living room for the time being.

Eric, I love the frame, I will probably pick up another, wanna try a configuration using the APM 2.5+ board that I have, I am going to start putting together some build sheets to share on the different setups and any tuning I do in playing around with the Vtails

Oh yes, props need to push down…
We will write about that in the manual as many people mount them wrong. Easy to be confused about them.

That would be awesome…!
Thanks a lot.
