Looking for robotic arm with USB interface. Should have axes of rotation and height, and it should have wheels for movement.
Its main application for me is to learn how to design robotic devices.
I’m a semi-retired electrical engineer (BSEE, U of Texas and MS Engr UCLA) who has concentrated on software for many
years. I program primarily in C#. If the robot has a USB interface, then the programming language I use is not important.
(I don’t like Linux.)
One application is to use this as a tool to design a device for spray-painting interior walls, which is a dangerous activity for humans.
Robots are expendable. Human beings are not!

(This is my first post. Apologies if I’ve violated any protocol.)
Hello @JimInAnaheim and welcome to the RobotShop community,
Sorry for the late reply, I hope this information is still useful to you.
When choosing a robotic manipulator for a project you need to keep the following things in mind:
- Payload: How much weight does the arm have to carry?
- Maximum range: What is the longest distance the arm should travel?
- Speed: Does it have to perform the actions at a certain speed?
- Precision: How accurate should it be?
- Working envelope: This is the region of space a robot can reach.
- Budget: Last but not least what is the approximate budget you have in mind? Are you looking for a hobby-grade robotic arm or more of a proffesional manipulator?
Lots of the options available in the store have a USB interface and have desktop applications compatible with Windows so you can avoid using Linux haha, for example:
The second option is a great one because it allows customization and expansion for applications through the use of additional parts, and can be easily fitted on a mobile robot to perform tasks like spray-painting interior walls.
The arm uses an adapter board with a USB interface to communicate the computer with the smart servos which can be easily programmed using the human-readable LSS communication protocol (there are also Arduino and Python libraries for it). It also has a graphical user interface (LSS FlowArm) compatible with Windows and it is a Lynxmotion original so you will be able to get all the support and information you need with the RobotShop support team.
