I’d like to hook up 4 of these DC motors to an Arduino Mega.
I bought an L293D driver but apparently it’s not powerful enough.
Can you recommend a good motor driver for this setup?
I was looking at the Cytron 10A 5-30V Dual Channel DC Motor Driver but I lack the technical knowhow to determine if it would be a good match.
Hello @pvangils and welcome to the RobotShop forum,
Those motors have a stall current of 7A, so we can estimate that the continuous current is around 25% of that ~1.75A. This means that should look for a driver that can withstand that current and that can take at least 7A peak. However, since you mentioned you want to use 4 motors and you linked a dual channel driver, you would have to connect two to each channel so you should double up those numbers, ~3.5A continuous and 14A peak.
You should be able to find a suitable controller in the <10A DC Controllers or 10-30A DC Controllers sections of the store. The one you linked should work for you if you use two drivers, but if you wish to use only one dual-channel driver here are some options:
Thanks for the quick reply.
I’m using Mecanum wheels so I need 4 channels, right? That’s why I proposed the Cytron motor driver in my first post. Meaning, I’d use two of those.
Based on my search results there aren’t any motor drivers that can be hooked up to 4 individually controllable wheels, is that correct?
