Looking for help with gap crossing robots

Hi,

We are trying to build a robot that can cross a gap and lay down it’s own bridge. We’re trying to figure out which type of robot kit we should use. We are open to any suggestions people may have. I looked at the DFRobot 4WD kit. I was wondering if that would be a good place to start. I was thinking of having the robot being controlled by a wired controller.

Thanks!

You might get some inspiration from past and present military vehicles which can lay their own bridges. Most are tanks because of their weight, and the bridges almost always fold. You need a lot of weight to counter-balance the weight of an extended bridge. A 4WD rover is (perhaps) not ideal because of its higher center of mass. You might design an ultralight folding bridge first, get that mechanism sorted out, and then see how to mount and deploy it from a robot.
