Looking for advice on use a gear sensor, eg Melexis MLX90254

I’m developing a product for ebikes: a multi-speed gearbox and drive motor combined in a single unit.
I need to sense the rotational position of a shaft and am considering using the MLX90254 gear sensor.
I want to use the sensor with a bias magnet mounted behind it, and a toothed ferrous wheel rotating past the front face of the sensor.

Does anyone have any experience of doing this?

Also I’m looking for anyone that can help me with arduino programming in the UK, preferably near Edinburgh!

Unfortunately no experience with the MLX90254 gear sensor to be able to provide advice.


Perhaps someone in the community can offer additional insights.
Do you think a sketch of your proposed setup would help?
