Long Range PS2 controller

Looking into getting the PS2 controller with a 300m range. Waiting for the demo unit from the mfg. Any interest? 8)

Hi Jim,

I am interested. It would be a viable alternative to a R/C setup as long as the price is right. In other words, it would have to be less than a comparable R/C setup.

I am VERY interested due to the ease of use of the PS2. I would buy it even if if it cost more than a comparible RC setub because of compatibility with the BasicAtom, etc. Just one thing: Would it use the same code? Same recever, or would you need a new recever to work with it??? How 'bout battery life???

I’ve just paid for the IC development for the extended range. The IC in the transmitter will have more power, but it’s not going to be bidirectional. In other words you will be able to control the robot at a LONG distance, but the receiver will not be able to transmit back to the hand held unit to turn on and off the vibrating motors. The cost should be just a little more than the 1m version.

Hi Jim,

How is the development of the new long range PS2 controller coming?

About what kind of range increase are we looking for?

TCIII

They are developing the IC now. They told me they can do 100m or 300m. I don’t yet know if there are any caveats to the 300m version yet. Like high current draw, etc. The range will be at least 100m. 8)

Hi Jim,

Thanks for the update. Much appreciated.

I am willing to be a Beta tester if you need one. :stuck_out_tongue:

Hi Jim,

Any update on the long range PS2 controller development?

Regards,
TCIII

I received an update from the development guy. They had to wait for a part to be back in stock. They say I should have my sample unit soon.

Hi Jim,

Thanks for the update. Much appreciated.

Hi Jim,

How much longer before we get to see the killer long range PS2 controller? :frowning:

I am still willing to be a a Beta Tester. :smiling_imp:

No word yet. Sorry…

Hello-
Any timetable on the new 100m remote? I am considering a hexpod, but will hold off if it is coming soon… Just a rough timetable would be great…

All I get is broken promises from the development place. I’m not holding my breath. However… You can make any PS2 controller have up to a 3200’ range. It does require an Atom or Atom Pro processor to talk to the PS2 controller then generate the PPM signals for the Airmod transmitter module. The buttons would be converted to one of 16 values, 50uS apart, sent on one of the analog channels. It’s a real do it yourselfer though, so be warned. Check it out here.

do u have one? with a so big range?

do you change the transmitte an resiver module?

is no problem? only change the mudles?

I was in the process of having it made as a product for me to sell. I have not received anything from the mfg. I have no more information.
