True but the sharp sensor
True but the sharp sensor needs an analog input not digital. It has 3 analog (or analogue for those across the pond).
Obfuscation
So it is possible to connect an analog sensor directly to an 08M out screw terminals 1 2 or 4 on the AXE023, but not run 2 motors from the AXE023 board at the same time, since the multifunction pins are also being used to drive the motor. Are you sure an accurate analog reading would occur while these pins are also connected to the L293D inputs?
This is not the 8M, just
This is not the 8M, just plain 8!
See I dont use the project
See I dont use the project boards. I assumed it came with an 8M. You could always buy an 8M and use it with the board. I don’t see why you would even use an 8 or 8M if you needed a distance sensor AND a motro driver. Use a bigger chip if you need both. For this bot you could just have 1 motor turn to make the bot turn. Just use lower profile wheels so it can turn with one motor going forward and the other not moving. If you really need a motor driver I doubt you would use an 8 pin if you wanted it to do much else.
Only one then instead of 3
The 08 shows a single possible ADC on IN1/OUT1/ADC1 (pin 6) still, though it is being used as a signal for the L293D motor driver on the AXE023 board.
Possible solution
What might work is to remove the L293D from the AXE023 board, Get a couple servos, to modify to continuous rotation, to use in place of the gearmotors. And plug them into the pins that do not have an ADC function. That would have one pin for each servo, one ADC pin for the sensor, and 2 more IO to use for bumper switches if wanted.
little 8 options
AS nobody yet nows I am new to building robots and do not no a whole lot. I’ve made Rc cars and electronics but the only prevois robotics i did was “lego mindstormers” hahaha. So i was wondering is there somekind of other input sensors you can put on this? thanks.
Sensors are plenty
We all have our favourite sensors. And most of them will work with most any micro controller. See this page. It’s where we try to keep a list of options to inspire us.
I’d strongly recomend the
I’d strongly recomend the start-here project if you want anything remotely more sophisticated.
one thing that confuse me on
one thing that confuse me on building little 8, is about the voltage regulater, i mean that i didnt really get the instruction. Do u have to try to stick the wire in the 5v 7805 voltage ragulater like thru the wires.
i meant i read te instrution
i meant i read te instrution about the voltage regulator. i just didnt really get it at all
so…uhh… fritsl, do we
so…uhh… fritsl, do we need to use a wire connector to connect the 9v battery connection to the wire. sorry, im actually new to this website.
The wire from the center pin
The wire from the center pin of the regulator goes to the screw terminal marked BLK while the wire on the edge of the regulator goes to the RED screw terminal of the PIC 08M motor driver board.
Understandable?
ok i understand now thanks
ok i understand now thanks
What Motor.
Im wanting to buy all my parts in a bundle from the same website
for this project, so could you advise me on which motor from this
page is most suitable?
Thanks in advance for the help and for this fantastic website, it has
helped me get a foothold in robotics!
Sorry, but the motors that I
Sorry, but the motors that I used are quite rare, from solarbotics. The fmous "pager motors", talk of the town everywhere.
Any geared motor will do, as long as you can put a wheel on it.
But… None of the motors on the page you are linking to are geared!

Dimensions
Hi,
Do anyone one know the dimensions of Little8 platforms? I’m new to robots and this would be my first one. Also, do anyone know any american websites to puchase the bumpers because i can not find any? Thanks
