Hello. We just had our Open Air litter arrive on Monday from you guys. We set it up right away and our cats took to it right away. It’s been so great, and working perfect!
Then, just yesterday, the sensor stopped sensing when a cat would go in the litter, and won’t do it’s automatic cycle anymore. The blue light is on (and not blinking), so it should be working. But when the cat steps in, the light doesn’t switch the red anymore.
I am able to manually press the cycle button and it works, but I can’t figure out how to fix it so it will automatically go off again. Is there an issue with the sensor, or how can I check? Also, both of our cats are 10 lbs, so weight isn’t an issue.
I tried to find some troubleshooting info, but couldn’t find anything online that was for the Open Air model.
If you could please get back to me with help, that would be great.
Please try the following:
- Press the ‘Cycle’ button. The unit should cycle and return Home with a solid blue light.
- Reset CATS by quickly pressing the ‘Reset’ button. This function resets the Cat Sensor baseline weight when pressed while the unit is at Home with a solid blue light.
- Test CATS by applying pressure the unit as described above.
- If the red light turns on after applying excessive pressure, skip to our TIPS section below and ensure your unit is not being desensitized.
- If CATS did not activate, please review the tips below and contact us for further troubleshooting.
TIPS:
‐ The unit should be completely free‐standing on a hard surface with no rugs, carpets, or items underneath it. A flat board is encouraged if you are placing the unit on carpeting.
‐ Press ‘Reset’ while the unit is at Home position with a solid blue light after adding litter and removing waste from the unit.
‐ Do not allow the unit to have items rest on it or be pushed against a wall.
‐ Using 9‐10lbs of clay clumping (standard weight) litter, works best. Alternative/lightweight litter that does not weigh as much as clay when filled to the fill line, may cause trouble triggering CATS
‐ For safety, cats under 5lbs may not trigger the unit. Manually cycle the unit until your cat reaches a safe weight of 5+ Lbs.
My cats will never reach 5 pounds. Is it possible to add weight to the unit in some fashion to compensate? Such as adding more litter? Or maybe self-adhesive wheel weights as used on vehicles? Or, will the sensor simply recalibrate to the “new” weight? It will be such a shame to have to return the newly purchased unit and try to fix the old model, simply because of this issue. Regards.
Hi,
Unfortunately, it wouldn’t detect the cat if he’s not at least 5 pounds. We wouldn’t suggest modifying the Litter-Robot and add weight to the unit, as when you would press on the “RESET” button, it will need 5 pounds of pressure to trigger the automatic cycle.
You can certainly use the Cycle button to have it cycle when you want, if your cat doesn’t trigger the unit by its weight.
