Litter Robot III (Open Air) ends its cycle upside-down

I have been having this issue for a few weeks now. In addition to getting stuck upside down, it also dumps all of the clean litter into the waste box beneath the robot. Hard resetting works, but it ends up upside down again and with all the clean litter in the garbage again within a few days. Very annoying as I will have to buy more litter way before I expected to now, and my cats don’t care about using the toilet in the sand, they will simply defecate on the upside down robot which will later have to be cleaned. Please help fix this issue. I have taken it apart and cleaned beneath it, checked the tabs and key, all are in place and clear.

Hello @kxnoe,

Welcome to RobotShop community.

We are sorry to hear that you are having this issue as well.

Can you provide us with a video or a description of the robot’s behavior during the cycle?

Which lights are blinking?

Awaiting your reply.

The most recent time the cycle light was solid, and I got it to go back upright by simply pressing the cycle button, however it went in the wrong direction. In times before, this did NOT do anything to solve the issue, and the robot had to be unplugged and plugged back in for its position to be righted. Like before, all of the clean litter was somehow emptied into the waste pit.

Hello @kxnoe,

Thank you for your reply.

You need to check these 2 points:

1- Make sure that you are using the original adapter (Output: 15v 1A) and it’s plugged directly to the wall.

2- Check if the magnets inside the robot are in their correct locations and attracting metal or not, here are their locations circled in red:

You can test these areas with any metallic object and let us know the results.

The magnets are both working, and the plug is too short, so it is connected to an extension cord, however, the cord’s wattage is well above the requirements, so it shouldn’t be causing any problems. It is 13A 125V.

Hello @kxnoe,

Thank you for your reply.

It’s recommended by the manufacturer to plug the adapter directly to the wall to avoid any issues with the motor or the circuit board on the long run.

Please try to move the robot to a location where you can plug it directly to the wall and let us know if this made any difference at the moment or not.

Awaiting your reply.

Is the blue light the only light that blinks when the robot malfunctions?

Hi i am having a lot of the same problems everyone here is talking about. We have had our Litter Robot 3 for about a year, worked great until about a month and a half ago. Woke up one day to find it stuck upside down and not responding to the control panel. Now the issue has escalated to it wont cycle at all or respond. Starts with the blue light solid like everything is fine. Cat goes in (does not register the cat at all), cat leaves, no red light, no switch to yellow, no cycle, no reset. On the rare occasion it does register the cat, and then actually start a cycle, it will start the cycle like normal then it will stop completely sometimes completely upside down and other times just anywhere it wants to. Then the yellow light will start flashing insane like and thats it the control panel wont respond, we have power cycled to the point of leaving it off for many many hours with out a change. when we plug it back in instead of doing the cycle as normal it will go back to a flashing blue or a flashing yellow light. reset does not work in any way. once out of maybe 20-20+ times it will do it right. we have cleaned it we have power cycled it we have done so many things to list but we still cant get the robot to work even half the time. it was really expensive and honestly cant afford to replace this but the frustration level is huge. a 500$ paperweight is a bit hard to swallow.

Exact same issue here. It stops upside down with the yellow light flashing insanely fast. Only solution is to unplug it, plug it back in and watch it spin 1.5 rotations and it will be back to normal. Until the next time. And Litter Robot doesn’t seem to help. Mine is still under warranty.

Hello @mygirlsdaddy1966,

Welcome to RobotShop community.

We are sorry to hear that you are having trouble with your Litter-Robot.

Please provide us with your order number or a copy of the invoice.

The issue could be coming from 3 parts:

1- The contact pins.

We will need to see the 3 pairs of contact pins shown in the following videos:
Anti-Pinch Pins:

Bonnet’s Pin:

Base’s Pin:

No need to take them out of the robot, we only need to see them from the outside.

2- Magnets inside the globe.

Please test the magnets by putting any metallic object on these two areas circled in red and check if the magnets would attract the object or not:

3- Misplaced or defective hall-effect sensor:

If the magnets are okay then the issue is coming from the hall-effect sensor and it needs to be replaced.

We have attached a guide to show you how to replace this sensor, please check it and let us know if you can replace it at home if we sent you a new one or if you prefer to send us the robot for repair under the warranty:
How to replace the hall effect sensor.pdf (2.2 MB)

If you find this too complicated for you, you can send us the robot for repair under the warranty.

Awaiting your reply.
