Litter Robot III Flashing Yellow Light Rapidly

Hi!

I’ve been using my Litter Robot III for a year now but recently I’ve been facing the problem of the globe stopping midway during a cycle and the yellow light will flash rapidly. I waited for a few minutes but the globe did not move automatically. I have manually repositioned the globe to its base position but the yellow light continues to flash rapidly. Tried switching the Litter Robot off and back on (main switch was turned off as well) but still no effect. All buttons on the Litter Robot are not responding either. So now my globe is positioned at its base but not moving at all with the yellow lights still flashing rapidly (maybe about 2 flashes per second).

I’ve checked the following:

  1. Waste drawer - emptied
  2. Anti pinch sensors - not rusty, cleaned and both are in contact
  3. Bonnet - securely clicked and locked into the base. Connection metals on the bonnet and base are cleaned and securely connected with each other.
  4. Wiring under the bonnet - all neatly attached to the bonnet; no loose wires
  5. Night light sensor - working; we tested by covering the sensor at the on-off button
  6. Litter content - not too full or too little; the litter is up to the level line
  7. Back black key - in correct locked position
  8. Internal shield - in correct top left position
  9. Cat sensor - same as when we first got the Litter Robot; we did not do any resetting or any changes to it
  10. Location of Litter Robot - on flat hard floor surface and not against any walls; no obstructions on its bonnet either

What else can we do to fix this problem please? Really hope some of you can help us…
Hope to get some useful response soon…

Thank you so much in advance for your help!

Hello @Roses,

Thank you for contacting RobotShop.

We are sorry to hear that you are having trouble with your Litter-Robot.

Basically, you have checked almost everything, but if possible, please provide us with a video of the robot trying to cycle.

Maybe we can notice the issue.

Also, a picture of the adapter’s label to check its specifications.

Have you had any issues with the DFI sesnor before?

Sincerely,

Hi @Ebram,

Thanks for reaching out. Really appreciate it.

Apparently, what I did was to switch off the main switch for about an hour or so. When I tried switching it back on (to take a video for you), it miraculously started to turn and worked like normal again! The globe has made a full turn and the indicator light is now blue, as per normal. I do hope the problem is gone for good. However, I am concerned that the situation may recur in the future.

Since I am not able to take a video of the litter robot being jammed, I can only answer your question on the DFI sensor. We checked it earlier and it does not seem to be faulty or dirty. So far, we have not had any problems with the litter robot in any way until these past few days.

Would you be able to suggest any other possible reasons for the earlier situation that I was facing, as well as the solutions?

Much thanks Ebram!

Hello @Roses,

Thank you for your reply.

Have you tried to let the robot cycle more than one time?

Usually it could work fine for one cycle after reset then the error appears.

If that’s the case, then please take a video of it when the problem starts to occur again.

If the robot kept working properly then it was just a problem with the circuit board and the reset done by unplugging for an hour then re-plug has fixed it.

Keep us updated.

Have a lovely day and stay safe.

Sincerely,

HJi Ebram,

I suppose I spoke too soon. My litter robot isw jammed again. Here’s what I could take as a video. Hope you can help, please.

Thank you!

Hello @Roses,

Thank you for your reply.

Please provide us with your order ID to check your warranty.

Sincerely,

Also if possible, we need a video of the unit once it starts cycling so we can see what is happening from the beginning of the cycle till it gets stuck.

Hi @Ebram,

My order number is #26432. Hope that helps.

Thanks Ebram!

Hello @Roses,

Thank you for your reply.

However, this is not the correct order ID, please provide us with a copy of the invoice.

And a video of the robot starting to cycle if possible.

Sincerely,

Hello,

I have exactly the same problem.

Blinking yellow. Troubleshooting complete. Then I cleaned and measured the pinch sensor. It didn’t help. Switched off in frustration.
The next day on - it works.
It ran for a few days and now it’s blinking again.
Power-cycle no longer helps.

The device should make my day easier and not waste my time. It has massive errors. For example a seal is missing at the rear bearing, so cat litter got in. The level sensor is unreliable. A little too much litter will cause malfunction…

This can’t be it.

How can I get rid of the blinking problem? Apparently, it’s an intermittent hardware failure…

Regards

Daniel

Hello @tom0021,

Welcome to RobotShop community.

We are sorry to hear that you are having trouble with your Litter-Robot.

Have you cleaned the Anti-Pinch pins and they are clean and not rust and touching each other well?

Do you have an internal shield like the unit in the video sent above?

Sincerely,

Hello, Ebram,

Can you explain ‘internal shield’? What exactly am I looking for?
After switching on, the device flashes blue (slowly). When I press Reset, it starts flashing yellow immediately. It does not try to rotate.
It was ordered on 23.04.2019, # 856729 . Produktcode: RB-Ltr-75.

Many greetings

Hello Daniel.

Thank you for your reply.

The internal shield the the plastic movable part inside the globe, like this one in the picture:

If you have it then if could be the reason for the problem.

Also about the Anti-Pinch pins:

The Anti-Pinch safety feature is two pins connected to the motherboard that must touch each other continuously.

If they are separated, you will have an alarm(yellow blinking light). The Anti-Pinch safety is located in the top back left of the Litter-Robot base. You will need to unplug the unit, remove the bonnet, the globe and the drawer.

This video will help you locate them: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJkQTXxkXXA

It is ‘‘Two Metal’’ pin. With a flashlight, you should be able to see if they are touching each other or not. If they are not touching each other, try to re-position it with a flat screwdriver by pushing them upwards.

Note: If the pins were dirty or rusty, you can take them out and clean them with WD-40 and sandpaper.

We hope this information will help you resolve the problem. Take care.

Hello, Ebram,

As described above, I have already checked the pinch sensor. The shield is not present in my system.

FYI: I have ordered the Litter Robot Open Air III - Connect Upgrade Kit. This will replace all of the affected hardware, so that these components can be excluded as the cause. I will report if it solves the problem…

Hello @tom0021,

Thank you for your reply.

Very well, the new DFI sensor included with the upgrade kit would fix your issue as long as the Anti-Pinch are working properly.

Let us know how it goes or if you needed any assistance with the upgrade kit installment.

Hello, Ebram,

the Litter-Robot now runs without any problems. I guess the board was defective after all. I think I saw a defect when looking over it.

The only message that still appears now and then is “cat sensor fault”, but that always happens when our cat stands on the platform and looks inside the robot to see what is moving. You can’t stop her from doing that…

Since the hardware was defective, the question arises to me of course to what extent I could expect a concession from the manufacturer or from you. I did not buy the repair kit from you, because I did not find it, but the robot is from you and only 1 year and 3 months old. Maybe you want to send me a voucher or maybe I will send in the defective hardware and you will think of something?

In any case, I’m glad that it is running again and that the level detection is now working reliably. By the way, the WLAN function and the app are great and work perfectly. I didn’t think it was necessary, but I didn’t know what I was missing. I see by notification when it is time to change the bag. Perfect.

Many greetings

Daniel

Hello @tom0021,

Thank you for getting back to us with an update.

That’s great to hear!

You have a good point about the part being defective while the robot is under warranty so we will check with management and see what they will say then get back to you.

We will forward you to our internal support system so we can carry on with the process.

Sincerely,

This topic was transferred to internal RobotShop Support.
