Litter Robot : flash blue then yellow then blue again

Hi!

I require your help regarding a problem I’m encountering.

My robot litter 3 has stopped working. It blinks blue, when I press reset it blinks yellow fast, and when I press reset again it blinks blue again.

I would like to know what is the most likely piece that has been damaged so I can change it. Can it be the DFI? I changed it in may 2019.

Troubleshooting steps already taken:
I have changed the anti-pinch pins 3 months ago, they are still okay. I cleaned completely the robot today, it did not change anything.
Last week it already had the same problem. I’d cleaned part of the robot (especially around the DFI parts) and it began working again : but after every turn it would blink blue and I’d have to press “reset” and then “cycle” for it to turn. Today I couldn’t make it restart at all, it’s back to going from blue to fast yellow when I press Reset.

Additional information:
I’ve had my robot since 5/28/2017, it was order 1400031213.

Thank you so much in advance for your help!

Hello @celly,

Welcome to RobotShop community.

We are sorry to hear that you are having trouble with your Litter-Robot.

If you have cleaned the DFI sensor with alcohol and a Q-Tip and it still didn’t fix the issue, then the DFI sensor needs to be replaced again.

Let us know if you need further assistance.

Sincerely,

I tried turning it on again today and now it’s stuck in fast flashing yellow light. Does it still seem like a DFI sensor problem?

I have cleaned everything.

I’m having exactly the same problem. I filed the pinch connectors so they are shiny metal to shiny metal, cleaned the DFI sensor with alcohol AGAIN! and still not changed. I’m getting a bit sick of it continually failing. This is the 5th time I can think of its stopped working.

Hello @edster99 and @celly ,

Thank you for your replies.

In this case, both DFI sensors will have to be replaced.

If the robot is being used by more than 4 cats, this would cause the frequent malfunction as the robot is being overused.

Also, if the sensor and pins aren’t cleaned regularly (monthly or every 6 weeks) this could cause the issue as well.

Let us know if you need further assistance.

Sincerely,

If you press the “Reset” button and it’s still not changing back to slowly blinking blue light, then you need to verify the pins then the hall-effect sensor.

The pins are fine, they are clean and are touching.

What is the hall-effect sensor?

It’s the sensor that tells the robot where to stop.

Were you seeing the robot getting stuck in the middle of the cycle or over-rotating recently?

It’s also possible that you have moved or damaged the sensor while cleaning the other parts so you can check this guide to show you how it should be installed.
How to replace the hall effect sensor.pdf (2.2 MB)

It sometimes stopped in the middle but usually began again by itself.

I’ll try changing the DFI but I’m also ordering the sensor harness in case it doesn’t work. I really hope one or the other change things.

I’ll keep this post updated with my results.

Was the yellow light blinking slowly (once per second) when this used to happen?

If yes, then the issue would be coming from the contact pins.

If you haven’t placed your order yet, you should include all the following pins to be sure:
RB-Ltr-107
RB-Ltr-108
RB-Ltr-129

Let us know how it goes.

It would blink pretty slow yes, as if the drawer was full.

I already have a new set of the pins in reserve (RB-Ltr-107). What do RB-Ltr-108 and RB-Ltr-129 refer to? I haven’t found anything with those references.

Very well, in this case, you would only need the base and bonnet contact pins.

They are not listed on the website but we can forward you to our customer service department to help you order them.

Here are the videos to show you how to replace them:

Awaiting your reply.

Thank you. I’ll first try changing with what I’ve already ordered and I’ll tell you if it doesn’t work.

Very well, awaiting your feedback after replacing the parts you have ordered.

I changed the DFI and it seems to work ! I didn’t change anything else.

I’ll be careful for a few days because it would not be the first time that it works a few days then stops. I’ll keep you updated in a few days, hopefully to say everything is alright.

Very well, keep an eye on it and let us know how it goes.

Have a lovely evening, stay safe.

I forgot to update !

There seemed to still be some problems at first, it would sometimes flash blue then yellow then blue again. But it worked, it would just sometimes stop midway for no reason.

After a while I stopped seeing it happen and it seems fine? It’s been a steady blue for about two weeks . I have no idea what is going on but I’d rather not touch it as long as it works.

I’ll come back if it stops working again then. Thank you for your help !

Hello @celly ,

Thank you for your update.

The blinking yellow light could be related to the bonnet positioning if it was a slow blinking.

The blinking blue light is usually related to the DFI sensor so try to clean the sensor and all the metallic pins regularly to avoid further issues.

Have a lovely weekend, stay safe.

Sincerely,
