We are getting rather desperate here and looking for suggestions. I think the basic premise of the Litter Robot assumes a certain level of intelligence in that your cat is smart enough to not go into the unit while it is moving. Unfortunately, I don’t think our cat is bright enough to figure that out.
She used to do this once in a while, but I don’t think she really understood why we would pull her back out. As of late she has been entering the cycling unit more and more.
She really has no fear of being in the unit while it is cycling. She will sit there and let the litter rain down on top of her.
If we are home and see her doing this, we can pull her back out. However, if we are not around, she will hop in while the unit is cycling, resulting with her urine and feces being spread throughout the screen and moving parts of the unit.
We would really appreciate any suggestions as far as getting her to use the Litter Robot, but not entering it while it is cycling.
Hi,
When your cat goes in the Litter Robot while its cycling, the robot is supposed to automatically stops.
The cycling process is not supposed to continue.
If that is the case, then either the cat sensor is defective or your cat is not heavy enough.
Is your cat 5 lbs + ? If yes, please contact us trough our support center. HERE > select the Domestic Robots department tab.
The cat that does this weighs 9 pounds, so her weight doesn’t appear to be the issue. And the litter robot does come to a stop when she hops in while it is moving.
Unfortunately, she stays fairly still in the litter robot and then poops or pees on whatever surface happens to be available.
The litter robot will start up after its pause and she will continue standing inside (our other cats exit when it starts to move). She has stayed inside it with the litter robot stopping and starting, letting the sifted litter dump down onto her. We end up having to pull her out, as she has no problem using it while it is moving and staying inside it while it moves.
Not the brightest cat on the planet!
Any ideas about what to do would be much appreciated!
Hi,
It is normal that the cat is not used to the robot as of yet.
We suggest you to put the robot in 8 hour sleep mode and when the cat gets used to the robot, you should be able to remove the 8 hour sleep mode.
She has been using the litter robot for the last 2 years. She is 2 1/2 years old and we bought it after she was heavy enough so that she wouldn’t have problems with the sensor.
Unfortunately, it has just been in the last few months that she has started staying in the litter robot when it rotates. She is completely indifferent to the movement and I swear she seems to think it is some sort of a challenge to stay upright and use it while it is moving. Considering that she is a mostly very inactive cat, we have no idea why she likes to use it when it is rotating. We’ve had her checked over by our vet to make sure she wasn’t having any urinary or bowel issues that might cause her to feel extreme urgency, and she has no physical issues at all.
My wife calls her the “dumbest cat on the planet” and I’m beginning to think she might be right!
Thanks for the response!
I was just hoping someone would have dealt with this and might have some ideas on how to stop her. It isn’t convenient to have to keep an eye on her all the time to make sure she doesn’t climb in when it is moving and to pull her out when she does.
My cat is doing the same thing! The robot does not stop moving when she get in, she is a >1 yr old sphynx so she is both young and natural lighter than other cats, their bones are less dense, but she is nearly 5lbs. She’s young, hyper active, and I know she gets a thrill from it. I’m just worried she’s going to fall into the hole someday and track used litter all over the house, because she likes to do her zoom run right out of it every time!
We do not recommend that kittens or cats that weigh
5 pounds or less use the Litter-Robot in the
unattended Automatic Mode. Their low weight may
not activate the Cat Sensor. Cats should weigh at
least 5 pounds before using the Litter-Robot in
Automatic Mode.
We recommend leaving the Litter-Robot off and
operating in “semi-automatic” mode. When you see
your cat has used the Litter-Robot, turn it on, and
the Litter-Robot will automatically perform a Clean
cycle. Once it finishes (about 2 1⁄2 minutes), turn the
power off. This way, your kitten is safe while it gets
accustomed to the Litter-Robot at a young age, and
you don’t have to scoop the litter box!
