Litter robot 3C not turning far enough to read dump position

I have done everything I can think of to get this machine working again. It has always been a little unreliable but recently has begun flashing the blue yellow red light sequence - making it useless. I wish I had returned it the first time it gave me issues but instead I’ve been dealing with occasional malfunctions for over 3 years.

My hall sensor is fine - if I start the globe slightly rotated towards the dump position it completes the cycle fully and displays the blue light of happiness… but only on the first cycle (my magnets are good. This also means my hall sensors / wiring harness is likely good, and I assume my pinch sensors are fine).

Pic of globe rotated where it works correctly onr cycle

Once the globe repositions at the end of the first cycle I get the error again on any following cycles.

I took the key off and cleaned around it. I cleaned the track. All my slider tabs are in place. The stripping along the base is all secure but one side is worn. The machine powers on and off as it should. I took the gear box apart and relubricated each gear.

I still can’t get it to complete the full turn when dumping. It seems to stop one or two cogs short meaning the magnet never passes the sensor and instead triggers the blue yellow red dump position error. The extra noise in the back ground is my washing machine running. There are no weird noises that occur as the machine stops and reverses.

How do I determine the issue from here. I am guessing either the power supply isn’t working fully or maybe circuit board. The power supply is the original one and is plugged directly in to the wall.

I initially thought the motor might be weak but the distance the globe turns does not change when the machine is run empty or with litter in it. I saw mention to time the cycle and it seems to run the right length of time.

I tried to attach the file of it running a full cycle but its too big.

Hello @XTacey ,

Best regards,

Not sure how to do this exactly. I uploaded the video to google but no idea how to get it to you.

Hello @XTacey ,

We have reviewed the video, and we noticed that the robot is performing its cleaning cycle at a slower pace than usual. This causes an error at the end of the cycle because it does not complete within the expected time frame. We therefore suspect that the power supply is no longer providing the necessary power for proper operation.

In order to help you repair your robot as quickly as possible, we recommend that you purchase the necessary replacement part from the RobotShop website:

-Power supply: RB-Ltr-15 (US Version) or RB-Ltr-49 (EU/UK Version)

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

I borrowed a power supply from a friends litter box. We still get the same error. Her box works fine :frowning:

Hello @XTacey

In that case, have you tried plugging the unit into another electrical outlet to see if the issue persists?

Also, make sure that the power supply is not plugged into an extension cord. It should be plugged directly into the wall.

Best regards,

It is plugged directly to the wall as per my first post. I have tried 1 other plug in spot with the same results. Its got to be either the motor or the controller board that is faulty. The globe rotates smoothly if I rest my hand on it so its not catching anything as it turns. My friend isn’t comfortable letting me take her working machine apart to further test mine.

Hello @XTacey

The issue with the 3 flashing lights is related to a defective Hall effect sensor. However, since the globe’s rotation is slow, we suspect the motor may also be faulty.

Here is the product code to order the part from our website: RB-Ltr-74

Please note that the product is currently out of stock and will be available again on 2025-03-24 for Europe and 2025-04-11 for Canada.

Feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

Best regards,

I’m aware it would normally indicate the hall effect sensor but I was able to show my sensor is fine by starting the globe slightly rotated. What I don’t know is if the motor solely controls the turn speed, or if the control panel plays a roll as well.

Hello @XTacey

We do not believe that the issue originates from the circuit board.

You can proceed with replacing the motor, and if the motor does not resolve the issue, you may request a refund.

Best regards,

Sounds good. Ill wait for stock to come in.

Im usually pretty good at fixing things, but this one has me stumped.

Hello @XTacey
