Litter robot 3 open air flashing blue led

Hi!

I require your help regarding a problem I’m encountering.

Description:
flashing blue led (as if the drawer is full). Press reset once and it will stop blinking). After one cycle, it starts blinking again.

Hardware concerned:
litter robot 3 open air

Software concerned:
none

Troubleshooting steps already taken:
emptied drawer, cleaned the plastic in front of the dfi on both sides

Additional information:
I don’t know if this is the right place for official support. I’m in the Netherlands. I don’t know if warranty still applies. Ordernr was #1300025322.
Does the dfi needs replacement? Is there any way to confirm? (I can do some tests with p.e. a multimeter if requested)

Thank you so much in advance for your help!

Hello @vanhetpadje ,

Welcome to RobotShop community.

We are sorry to hear that you are having trouble with your Litter-Robot.

Unfortunately, the robot is no longer under warranty, however, we can still help you fix your robot.

Please try to clean the 2 green circuit boards of the DFI sensor with isopropyl alcohol and a Q-Tip to remove any rust or dust from the small chips.

Then clean the Anti-Pinch pins with WD-40 and sandpaper.

Here’s a video to help you locate these parts:

Let us know how it goes.

Sincerely,

Thank you. I need to get myself a larger philips screwdriver. Would that be ph0, ph1, ph2, or what?
Kind regards

Hello @vanhetpadje ,

Thank you for your reply.

The size is PH2.

And it should be long and with a magnetic tip is better.

Let us know if you need further assistance.

Sincerely,

Hello Ebram,
Thank you for your reply.

Despite the lot of corrosion on the pinch terminals, they were still making a good electric connection. I did however removed the corrosion on them and cleaned the 2 circuit boards.

However, the issue remains exactly the same.

So what else can we try?

Kind regards

Hello @vanhetpadje,

Thank you for your reply.

In this case, the DFI sensor needs to be replaced.

You can order a new one from this link:

We also recommend ordering a new pair of the Anti-Pinch pins to avoid ordering them again soon since they are a bit damaged at the moment.

You can order the new pins from here:

Hello @Ebram, thank you for the reply.

I must be very lucky because the error magically disappeared. I didn’t even replaced the bag yet, but the litter robot seems to be happy again.

The only thing I can think of that might have fixed it, are the instructions that I found on

I tried the instructions at the top of that page (power cycle without turning off), but gut stuck at point 3 because there was no start-up cycle (at least not by itself).

I was going to be a bit disappointed by repair and shipping costs for a unit that has not been out of warranty for a long time, but now that it seems to be fixed there is no need.

Kind regards

Hello @vanhetpadje,

Thank you for your reply.

Very well, keep an eye on it and let us know if you noticed any further issues.

Also, try to clean these parts from time to time to avoid having issues with them.

Sincerely,

tHello @Ebram
Unfortunately I am back with almost the same, but slightly different error.

Now, the symptoms are:
After each and every cycle the blue led starts blinking. If I press reset, it goes to solid blue, until the next cycle.

I removed the power without shutting down and waited for 10 seconds to restore power. Blue led starts blinking until I press reset, it then goes to solid blue until the next cycle.

If there something I can try?

Thank you.

Hello @vanhetpadje ,

Thank you for contacting us again.

We are sorry to hear that you are still having trouble with your Litter-Robot.

Have you tried to clean the DFI sensor with alcohol again?

If that didn’t work, the sensor will need to be replaced.

Awaiting your reply.

Sincerely,

Hello @Ebram and thank you for your kind reply.

I just opened the unit and cleaned the sensors and the pins again, but the error remains.

Just to be sure: on the back/bottom of the control panel, there are 4 positions for connectors, only 3 of them are occupied (the one pointing most to the inner of the unit is empty). Is that correct?

So, I definitely need a new sensor? :unamused:

Hello @vanhetpadje ,

Thank you for you reply.

In this case, you would need to order a new DFI sensor and replace it according to this video:

Yes, this is correct, it should be kept empty.

Let us know if you need further assistance.
