Hello my native language is German, I use a translator to write this post, I hope everything is understandable.
I bought a Litter Robot 3 3 years ago, which should now be out of warranty.
It started with the robot only turning about halfway through the cleaning process and then stopping with a flashing yellow light, which was probably due to the “pinch detect” error, according to my research.
I checked at the time to see if the two metal pins were touching and they were. Since then I have cleaned the Litter Robot by turning it manually and disconnecting it from time to time.
A few weeks ago, after I plugged it back in, it suddenly went through a complete cleaning process again, spun up completely and the blue light came back on constantly like it’s supposed to and it ran normally again for about 2 weeks.
Then it started all over again, the same procedure and now the yellow light is constantly yellow and the robot no longer reacts to anything.
The day before yesterday I completely disassembled the robot as far as I could and cleaned it completely, including the sensors and contacts, but unfortunately all to no avail.
Again, I did some research and I’m afraid the motor might be broken and needs to be replaced. Or does anyone have another solution?
If none of the steps in the video resolves the issue, please send us photos of the 3 sets of contact pins. Two are located on the base, and one is on the side of the cover. (Refer to the photo)
Yes, the problem still exists. The most common problem is that the yellow light is permanently on.
I have disconnected the Litter Robot from the power supply and when I reconnect it from time to time, the blue light occasionally flashes, as if the bottom drawer is full and needs to be emptied.
But the main problem is the constant yellow light.
The issue with the solid yellow light is related to a defective motor. You will need to proceed with replacing it.
Additionally, you can replace the 3 contact pins on your robot, as they show signs of usual wear and tear. These pins should be replaced every 1-2 years as part of regular maintenance to ensure the robot functions properly. These components can rust or corrode over time due to ammonia exposure.
If your unit is no longer under the manufacturer’s warranty, you can order these components from the RobotShop website using the following product codes: RB-Ltr-74, RB-Ltr-107, RB-Ltr-108, RB-Ltr-129.
If your unit is still under warranty, we can transfer your request to proceed with sending the replacement parts. We will be happy to assist you.
If you had a blinking blue light before replacing the motor, this indicates that the DFI sensor is defective. This issue can also cause a solid yellow light, but the first step in the diagnosis is to replace the motor.
In your case, since replacing the motor did not resolve the problem and you previously had a blinking blue light, the DFI sensor (RB-Ltr-176) will need to be replaced.
I’m having a similar problem with the Litter Robot 3 again and hope you can help me with this too.
It’s no longer running cleaning cycles, the LEDs are flashing blue, yellow, and red alternately, and the app is reporting a “dump position fault.”
When I press reset, the LED lights up blue again, but when I try to trigger a cleaning cycle manually by pressing the button, or when the cat enters the Litter Robot, the LED lights up yellow again, just like with my previous problem.
Shortly afterwards, the LEDs flash blue, yellow, and red again.
What is the problem?
I am generally very satisfied with the Litter Robot when it works, but I must say that I find it very disappointing that such an expensive device constantly causes problems.
Could you please send us a video showing the robot’s behavior starting from the moment it is turned off and when you press the power button, so we can confirm a few points?
Thank you for the video. We can’t see the entire robot, which makes it difficult to analyze certain points. However, from what we can observe, when you turn on the robot, the control panel remains yellow without the globe rotating. This behavior could indicate that the motor is possibly defective. This could also explain the three flashing lights, as if the motor does not provide the required power within the recommended time for the cleaning cycle, the three lights will flash to indicate a position fault.
Additionally, you can replace the three contact pins on your robot, as they show signs of normal wear and tear. These pins should be replaced every 1–2 years as part of regular maintenance to ensure the robot functions properly. These components can rust or corrode over time due to ammonia exposure.
Here are instructional videos on how to replace these components:

Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
Incidentally, the app also sent a push notification with the message “Position fault - Litter Robot 3 paused due to a position fault. Tap to troubleshoot”
Could you please send us a video where we can see the entire robot performing its cycle from the moment it is powered off and you press the power button? As mentioned, it is difficult to analyze certain points by only seeing the control panel, as the robot is not fully visible in your last video.
