Litter Robot 3 Connect: Blinking blue / rapid yellow light

Hi!

We bought a LR3 Connect at the end of March (Order number #1080855) and started using it mid April, but last week it started blinking the blue light when the waste tray wasn’t full. We could simply use the reset button to get it working again, but after the next use it would start blinking again.

After a couple resets it wouldn’t work anymore and started blinking the yellow light rapidly when pushing the reset button.
I searched the internet and found some advice to try:

  • Clean the inside
  • Clean the dfi sensor (was not really dirty, but did it anyway)
  • Test the device without a plastic liner
  • Calibrate the dfi sensor
  • unplug and leave the device unplugged for several hours

I tried all of this and the LR3 finally started working again after leaving it unplugged for a whole night.
I tought it was fixed, but 2 days later it’s having the same issues again (blue/yellow light blinking)…

Is the quality of this product so bad that it breaks after only 4 months of use?
Is there anything else I could try, or are the sensors really dying and do they need to be replaced already?

Thank you so much in advance for your help!

Hello @KennyDV ,

Welcome to RobotShop community.

We are sorry to hear that you are having trouble with your Litter-Robot.

Have you cleaned the 2 green circuit boards of the DFI sensor with alcohol and a Q-Tip to remove any rust/dust from them?

You will also need to clean the Anti-Pinch pins with WD-40 and sandpaper.

Here’s a video to help you locate these parts:

Awaiting your reply.

Sincerely,

Hi Ebram,

I have used isopropanol on a Q-tip to clean the DFI pcb’s and used Kontakt Chemie 60/61 (electronics contact cleaners) on the Anti-Pinch metals.
Both cleanings did not solve the issue.

I also checked for continuity of the Anti-Pinch terminals with a multimeter and they are working fine.

I just tried plugging the device back in after having no power for 5 hours, but the Blue/yellow lights return this time.

Best regards,
Kenny.

Hello @KennyDV ,

Thank you for your reply.

In this case, the DFI sensor needs to be replaced.

Are you able to replace it by yourself if we sent you a new one or do you prefer to send us the robot for repair under the warranty?

Awaiting your reply.

Sincerely,

Hi @Ebram ,

I will be able to replace the sensor myself.

Thanks in advance,
Kenny.
