I have installed a 30" stroke 400lb Force Linear Actuator to open a side door on a minivan gullwing style. My issue is when it’s in the shop it works fine, but out in sub zero temp the motor draws too much current and kicks the safety off in the control module.
Any one else have cold temp issues with these motors?
Hi,
If you are talking about the RB-Fra-89, it is meant to be used in temperature between -26 deg C and 65 deg C.
The IP rating is IP43 which is not ideal for outdoor use.
Other things can cause it to malfunction, but it is very hard to help without having more informations about your project (controller used, pictures and connection diagram).
Informations about the weight it has to push/pull will also help, the fact that the moving parts are getting frozen could explain that situation.
Hey,
Yes the RB-Fra-89. It is mounted inside the van so it’s not subject to outside weather. It’s lifting the side door which weighs about 250 pounds.
When I start the van and warm up the interior it works fine, but when below freezing it doesn’t.
cheers
So at 20 degrees C it draws 3 amps no load. We left the actuator outside last night and the temp got down to -16 C. We brought it into the shop and put power to it and it barely moved at all and was drawing 13 amps.
All this to say that this actuator is NOT rated for cold temps below freezing although it says it’s good for -26 C IT IS NOT!
