Line following robot

Hi,

I’m new at this robotic, so if I’m posting a question in a wrong area of this forum or I just don’t make sense. Please be patient with me!

I"m looking for a sensor that would follow lines that are drawn. Could I just get a line drawn sensor and stick on a remote control toy car? My son has this
project for school, and we were wondering if we are able to do this instead of buying a whole robotic kit?

Please give me your input and if any suggestions you might have. If we need to purchase a kit, I would like to put together line following robot instead of
purchasing already make (too expensive). I’m looking to keep cost down.

Thank you

Sonya

You could purchase a line following sensor, at which point you’ll also need a microcontroller, power supply, potentially a motor controller, motors etc. You would then need to program the microcontroller to react to what the sensor output.
The least expensive method is to purchase a dedicated line following robot kit:

robotshop.com/en/elenco-line … e-kit.html (higher level and soldering required)
robotshop.com/en/pc-programm … robot.html (programming required)
robotshop.com/en/line-follow … motor.html (much higher level)
