Lightning surge interrupter

I live in the Tampa Bay, Florida area which is very prone to lightning strikes. I am installing 2 robot lawn mowers that utilize perimeter and guide wires and the manufacturer is suggesting if lightning is in the area to temporarily disconnect all of these wires. Not a great option as far as I am concerned. However ground lightning strikes are so common in Florida and other areas and the perimeter wires would probably act like lightning rods in attracting the lightning charge. It surprises me that the manufacturers of these have not addressed the issue in a better fashion than simply saying disconnect when lightning is in the area.

Is there available some sort of inline fuse system or other system that would interrupt or redirect any lightning strike prior to it getting to the circuit board that could be easily and inexpensively replaced?

FWIW, I am installing Husqvarna brand Automowers.

Hi @jagmanjoe and welcome to our forum!

There isn’t such thing as 100% protection from lightning strike.

If your lawn is very big, without any nearby trees or tall buildings, then yes, these guide wires are acting like lightning rods.

If there are some trees or buildings nearby, then I would say chances for your lawn to get hit by lightning are much smaller.

Beside direct lightning, which is definitely fatal, there is also induction from nearby lightning strikes that can damage electronics.

It is an interesting idea if you have found out that there is no device or solution for this provided by lawn mower manufacturers.

As far as I know, there are surge protectors that can be bought for protection of house appliances. We don’t have those on our website, but you will definitely find them online.
