LidarLite V3HP distance errors

I set up a test to measure the reported distance versus the actual by moving the device at 10 cm increments away from a white painted drywall wall. I discovered that below 90 cm the readings were in most, but not all, cases over by around 20 cm as shown below:
15 36
20 43
30 57
40 60
50 49
60 77
70 100
80 97
90 91
100 100
110 109
120 124
130 136
140 143
150 155
Any thoughts as to why this might be happening and how to correct for it?

Hi @drbrodie

According to specification (https://www.robotshop.com/media/files/pdf2/rb-pli-17_-llv3hp-_operation_manual_and_technical_specifications.pdf), non-linearity is present below 1 meter.

I guess this explains your results.

Thank you for your response but the same specs also state ± 5 cm accuracy and some of these readings are off by as much as 30 cm.

Hi @drbrodie

Did you buy the sensor from RobotShop?

Yes, several of them and LL3 too. Why?

In that case we can contact manufacturer for help.

Or even you can contact them to get faster reply. Contact person is: [email protected]

Thanks. I have reached out to Brad who has also been very helpful in the past but he has not responded. I will try him again.

I have emailed Brad two times but received no response. Could you possibly try through your channel to see if he will answer you?

Hi @drbrodie

We sent an email to Brad.

Thanks

Brad did get back to me. The problem was apparently caused by the way in which the LLv3HP was physically mounted to the test fixture. When I mounted it differently the problem went away.
Thanks for helping to move this along.
