Lidar RPLIDAR A2

Hello,

I am interested in the RPLIDAR A2. The technical datasheet reads that the Distance Resolution is <0.5mm. However, there is no information on the accuracy of this Lidar. Do you know what is the accuracy?

Moreover, it has a scan rate of 10Hz for a full 360degrees measure. I’m new to Lidar technology but is it possible to get a higher scan rate frequency if we were to get measurements on a lower angle, only 180deg for instance?

Best,

Thomas

Hi Thomas,

The RPLidar A2 comes in two versions: [A2M8], which a range of 6 m and [A2M6] with a range of 16 m. Both offer a default rate of 4000 samples/s, refreshing a full turn at ~10 Hz worth 400 samples over 360 degrees. If using less measurements per turn, the refresh rate can be change by changing the PWM signal sent to the board (instead of using the provided adapter). Check the SDK from the manufacturer for more details. Please note that this device cannot scan less than a full turn, as far as we know.

The datasheet specifies “distance resolution” but it seems the manufacturer also meant accuracy. Therefore, page 9 of the datasheet should have the information you need. Therefore, the accuracy would be < 1% of the distance.

Sincerely,
