Lidar Lite v3

If we seal the Lidar Lite v3 into an enclosure with two o-rings around the front, will it remain watertight? We wish to use the Lidar Lite v3 in our product outdoors. The question is - Are the two lenses watertight? Are they safe for outdoor use in the rain. We don’t expect there to be negative pressure inside the enclosure, as it will be vented. The lenses are not watertight and should not be operated under adverse weather conditions. This question was asked previously, so here is some excerpts of the manufacturer’s previous responses concerning this:

The LIDAR-Lite’s housing has not been designed to any IP standard for environmental protection; it uses a simple snap together housing. The sensor can be put into a sealed housing behind a clear glass, acrylic or poly-carbonate window. Since we transmit and receive at the same time, the optical tubes of the sensor should be sealed to the window with a gasket or silicone sealer so that there is not any cross-talk between the transmit and receive optics.

So if the question is how to install the sensor in a housing behind a glass window, the answer would be to position the nose of the sensor against the glass with some form of gasket to prevent the cross-talk. The type of material in this situation is not too important other than it be clear and not have any sort of IR coating.

Therefore, we strongly recommend that the device is entirely inside an enclosure for use in rainy conditions. At least on side of the enclosure will need to be flat and clear/transparent to IR with the sensor mounted directly against it (parallel with the normal to the surface).
