LFR - 1 may deadline

University competiotion... This will be there I hope... suggenstions needed and are welcome...

Just for fun, don't know the prizes, but :) I decided to enter. After reading a lot about robotics, and I love it anyway... I'm at University of Oradea, first year but I think that this would be a good starting point for me...

So...

  • Wheels

All I want is a line following robot. I want it verry cheap... First time I got on working on the gear... After disansambling some LEGO toys, I got on some wheels... from LEGO Tehnics I got two 68.8x40mm wheels which I think are too large but another 30.4x14 will do the work... I won't use any gear ratio just the direct power of the motor...

  • The gear motors

I stop thinking about where to buy some gear motors... I saw solarbotics Gm8 but I thought that are expensive for this project... After some thinking, I found under my bad two old CD-ROMs... Man... those has gear motor for the doors and for the CD spinning... I disansambled them and :D voila... 4 motors... 2 were the same... 1 was flat motor... and another a horizontal cubic motor... so got two same type motors... The only problem was the axis... it was 2mm... my wheels had round 6mm holes... so I got a gear motor... heated up until it was red and started to make a hole in an adapter from LEGO Tehniks :P now those wheels fully funcional... not the stable one :) but I think it will do the trick

More later... after buying some parts

follows a balck line on a white surface

  • Actuators / output devices: LEGO wheels, CD-ROM motors
  • Control method: autonomous
  • CPU: circuit or arduino duemilanove
  • Power source: 7.2
  • Programming language: Arduino
  • Sensors / input devices: IR reciever, IR emiter
  • Target environment: indoor

This is a companion discussion topic for the original entry at https://community.robotshop.com/robots/show/lfr-1-may-deadline

Sorry djhesit8, you should not post this as a robot

Please mark this robot as “draft”. It’s on the bottom of the edit-page. As stated in the Rules, a couple of motors is not a robot that earns its own page. Not yet.

After you updated this and you are showcasing a real robot (work in progress maybe, but more than two wheels!), only the can you remove the “draft” mark. And we will all go “OOOHHHHHH” and “AAAAHHHHH!”.

Promise.

Motors

Hi DJ,

I use the same CD drive motors on a couple of my bots. They are powerful for their size but to have them drive a bot, you will need them geared down for more power and a much slower speed. I use gearboxes with approx. 25 to 1 ratio. Even geared down this much they move rather quickly.

Take another look at the gear motors to make your bot. Your results will be much better.
