Hi can anyone help on this....
I am trying to make some noises for my robot (in progress) via a picaxe 28x2 sound commands. I first bought a small piezo but it was way to quiet so i bought a bigger one, about 60mm D which i thought the sound would have been louder but it isn’t.
Anyone know how to make a louder sound...i just want my robot to be heard.
Would using a speaker help, if so do i need other components to drive it?

LM386
Check out the lm386 chip, I am sure it is searchable here as a lot of people use it. It is simple, wicked cheap, you can get it a radio shack and only needs a few extra parts. Or Cut off the end of some amplified computer speakers and wire them in. (be sure of polarity)
Funny, I just went through
Funny, I just went through this today myself.
I’ve had mixed results with piezos. One worked great, the other was too quiet. You could either amplify the signal as CtC suggests, or go with a traditional speaker, which may sound fine.
A 10uF capacitor inline with the speaker will keep unwanted DC from damaging your speaker. Make sure to use a non-polarized capacitor.
I didn’t have a 10uF non-polarized capacitor on hand, so I used a 2.2uF one and it seems fine.
great thanks. ive tried the
great thanks.
ive tried the speaker which is a lot louder. does anyone have a circuit diagram for the Lm386 ic. i wanna have a play with it.
cheers
