Led vs laser rangefinder in smoke/fog and rain/snow environments

Hi all, I’m looking for a tof ranging sensor for my robot… I need at least 10 mt range and the ability to measure in fog, smoke, rain and snow environments at day and night. I’m looking at leddartech sensors but I don’t know if led or laser is the best choice for me…

LiDAR (Laser) for sure! These sensors are the best option for long-range and outdoor uses as they have the ability to measure through rain, fog, and clouds. Here’s a great blog where they compare different types of distance sensors in case you’re interested:

And as you mentioned the device will have to withstand harsh environments I suggest looking for one with a high IP rating.
