LA66 not taking commands and RX Timeouts

I just got the LA66 (v2?) and I plug it in, but when I try some terminals, I can see the TX is working fine. But I’m getting RX Timeouts. If I try to type anything in, I get zero feedback. If I paste a command in, I get “AT_ERROR”.
I only get text at baud 9600. I’ve tried putty, terraterm, and securecrt. I’m trying to test it to see if it works but I’m not getting anywhere. Ideas?

Hi Turbow5,

The first thing would be to follow the example on the manufacturer guide. (HERE)

Let us know how this work

I’ve seen this guide but the board looks different. I downloaded the software in the guide and it doesn’t even see the usb la66. So that died there…

Hi Turbow5,

The board is not USB so not sure how you could see it that way.
Please share the wiring etc used to test the board (explanation and pictures), the more you share the easier it can be for us to help.

We might have to ask the manufacturer about it once we have enough information.

All the best,

This is what I purchased. https://www.robotshop.com//products/dragino-la66-usb-lorawan-adapter-v2

I tried uploading 2 pictures of the chip but it’s stuck on processing upload.

That’s already great as it’s not at all the product I was looking at which is a shield for Arduino. (lol)

The correct user guide would be:

It’s totally normal to only have feedback at 9600 since it’s the baudrate at which it seems to be set by default.
Try to follow closely the example 1.5 (HERE).

A note is at the very top of the example:
Assume user already input the LA66 USB LoRaWAN Adapter OTAA Keys in TTN and there is already TTN network coverage.

It says for step 2 “The following picture appears to prove that the LA66 USB LoRaWAN Adapter successfully Join the LoRaWAN network”. But any command I type, it just replies with “OK”. I understand it’s not a part of a network yet, but if it’s just rejecting any command, then where do I go from here?

My understanding of the module is limited but I think it’s working.
It does communicate through your serial monitor.

What’s the expected use for the module, you must have a plan to use it with a LoRaWAN network ?

The Dragino team have a support page request HERE.
We can also elevate this forum post in a Ticket and ask them to support you there.

I was hoping to use it to connect to traccar. The antennas purpose to to seeek out dog trackers, so I can track them via signal strength or GPS.

I’ve pushed that to a Ticket where we can add the manufacturer for a better support.

update: I’m trying to set it up as a peer-2-peer network. Following this guide:

Using this software: STM32CubeProgrammer as per instructions.
But it will not even try to make the connection. it opens the port, but device fails to respond. Says " error activating device:KO. Verify boot mode config and check serial port config.

There’s not exactly a button for boot mode. So I’ve asked support to verify.

Hi Turbow5,

It would be best if you continue with the support ticket with Dragino.
They are in the best position to guide and support you with their products.
