L293D motor driver and Tamiya 70097

hi all i bought a Tamiya 70097 Twin-Motor Gearbox but the motors don't spin when used with a L293D driver IC but it works ok when it connects directly to the barrery (5v). i have a different 6v motor which works fine with the driver IC so i know it should work. The only difference is that i don't have any caps on the Tamiya 70097 motors...could this be it?

any thoughts on this anyone?

Cheers

Vinny

Dont think the caps are the problem, they are recommended but not that important.

Are you using the l293d with a processor? Is the processor working correctly ?

It could always be a burnt out chip.

Ah a fellow Vince…hello

yes im using a picaxe 28x2 but that all seems ok because it works when i put the other motor on.

thinking maybe the Tamiya motor is pulling to much current and the driver chip cant handle it, but i am surprised if this is the case cos the motor is only small.

any thoughts?

it seems the caps make a

it seems the caps make a difference. soldered a couple on and it now works. maybe the noise on the line was interfering with the picaxe.

thanks for your help

Try differerent battery/s

I’ve had similar experience with this combination. Can’t say why but I just tried different battery combinations. And some worked better than others. I have a pic on one supply and the l293d and tamiya twin motor/gearbox on another. I found a 9v cell for motor supply was best. I also have some nimh aa in a quadpack that are ok but drain quickly. I tried some cheap Li-ion cells with it and got weird results. So definately try another battery setup and see what results you get.

I am using the same setup to drive my robot, same motors and same chip so it should work, it should heat up but thats about it.

New batteries are always are great help as low ones can cause odd problems.

Wish I could help you more but I have no other clue! Sorry about that.

Glad to here that! Would

Would have never thought they made that big a difference !
