I am new to robotics and am interested in learning by building my first robotic device. I would like it to simply pop up automatically from a lying flat position - picture something like a skeleton that would lay in the bushes and pop up automatically when provided power (next step would be a timer, connected controller, radio controller, or best yet some sort of app). Does anyone know of a kit that could do this? If not, perhaps some suggestions on the basics to just make it pop up automatically when powered. Thanks for any help in advance, Jay
Hi Jay,
There are a few ways you could achieve this goal. It could be something very simple such as connecting a rigid structure to your device and attaching that structure to a pivot, which would be driven by a motor (with limit switches to cut off power). You could also use a linear actuator, though this may be to slow if you want it to “pop up”, depending on the model.
Since you are starting out, we recommend that you check out this blog series: How To Make a Robot. Reading these should help you have a better idea of what is needed for this to work and how you would like to go about it.
Once you have a better idea of how you want to make it, we can certainly help you find the right components.
Sincerely,
