Hey guys. i have always loved electronics and i am trying to now get into robotics! i really dont know much. so where do i get started? thanks!
Welcome on board, Aleki,
You did not say whether you have done any programming yet or which languages interest you, nor do you say if you have built any robot projects. No matter. Your profile shows you are 16 and have interests in metalworking as well as electronics. I am sort of at the other end of the spectrum. I’m 72, with many years of computer and model building experience. But before coming here, I had virtually no robotics background, and my electronics knowledge was all discreet parts and analog; not microcircuits and digital. I think you will find as I did that this Lynxmotion forum is the ideal place for a beginner to get started.
For one thing, the people here are very friendly, tolerant of beginners, and genuinely interested in promoting your success. There is also a great wealth of information already in place on the forum, and you can download all the assembly guides, sample programs, and tutorials absolutely free. Let me suggest a few things that helped me jump-start my learning:
- The forum is broken into subject areas. Pick one and read the whole thing from earliest to newest. Do it again with another subject. And another.
- There is an area for members’ projects. Read some projects the same way as the subject areas.
- Read some assembly guides and tutorials even if you don’t think you will buy those particular kits.
- Get familiar with the contributions of the major posters and follow the ones you find most interesting or helpful.
- There are many other members in your age group. Figure out who they are and share experiences with them.
- Try to read all new posts daily or several times a week. It’s the easiest way to stay current.
- Actually build something and program it.
- Join a robotics group in your school or community.
- Have some major fun doing all this! It is a wonderful hobby!
Welcome, Aleki.
RoboTed has hit the nail on the head, answering you question.
This is very good advice and a great method for improving your projects. One of the major advantages of this is that it will give you extra knowledge of the assemblies, electronics etc, that will come in handy for your own projects.
The kits are the best place to start, but you might also like to build your own custom robot, and the lynxmotion SES (Servo Erector Set) is a very diverse, and the components are extremely versatile. any project can be built with a wide degree of variation.
My advise would be to choose a kit that interests you 'whether this is Driven robots, Walking robots, Robotic devices?
Learn the tutorials, ask questions and have fun.
Unlimited Possibilities!
